That was something that Mr al Fayed wanted, but it's not something that the coroner has granted because he doesn't think Prince Philip can give oral evidence that will actually cast any light on how the Princess died. Storm clouds over Kensington Palace\u003cbr/\u003eThe inquest into the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, will finally get underway in London on Tuesday - more than ten years after she died. \u003cbr/\u003eA jury of eleven men and women will decide whether she and her friend Dodi al-Fayed were victims of an assassination plot, or just a tragic accident.\u003cbr/\u003eThe inquest will take place at the Royal Courts of Justice. In accordance with standard legal practice in the UK, no cameras will be allowed into the courtroom while the inquest is in session. \u003cbr/\u003eBecause of the unprecedented worldwide interest in the case, a special annexe has been set up as an overspill area for media and other observers.\u003cbr/\u003eLegal commentator Joshua Rozenberg points out that an inquest isn't like a trial. Instead it's a formal investigation, with a coroner instead of a judge. \u003cbr/\u003e\"It's not like a court with prosecution on the one side and defence on the other,\" he says. \"This is an inquisitorial procedure. It's an inquiry. The coroner acts as an inquisitor. He runs the show.\"\u003cbr/\u003eDiana and her friend Dodi al-Fayed died on 30 August 1997 when their car crashed inside a tunnel in Paris. They had just left the Ritz Hotel and were being pursued by paparazzi photographers.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Princess was buried a week later after a state funeral in London.\u003cbr/\u003eDodi's father Mohammed al-Fayed has blamed the deaths of the couple, along with their chauffeur Henri Paul, on the Queen's husband Prince Philip and the British secret service.\u003cbr/\u003eBut a police investigation blamed the chauffeur and suggested he'd been drink-driving.\u003cbr/\u003eJoshua Rozenberg says it's highly unlikely that the coroner will call members of the royal family to give evidence, which means at least some of the conspiracy theories won't be put to the test. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Obviously there are all sorts of theories about what the Princess feared, and conversations she might have had with people during her lifetime. But it's up to the coroner to decide what witnesses to call, and I don't think we're going to hear from any members of the royal family,\" he comments.\u003cbr/\u003eDiana's former home, Kensington Palace, is still a shrine to her memory, and tourists visiting the site today remain convinced the full truth hasn't yet been told. \u003cbr/\u003eEqually there's a view that the time may have come to draw a line under the affair. \"She's gone, you can't bring her back.
