the two oldest women in the world are said to be living in the remote region of Kelardasht, about 200 kilometres north of Tehran.\u003cbr/\u003eOne lady is said to be 142 years old while the other is thought to have reached the ripe old age of 145.\u003cbr/\u003eThey're by no means the only \"ancients\" in the area - Iranian media say there are hundreds of men and women in the region who are older than 100 years old.\u003cbr/\u003eThe region of Kelardasht in the province of Mazandaran is situated in the Alborz mountain range and overlooks the Caspian sea.\u003cbr/\u003eIts breathtaking views make it one of the most beautiful parts of Iran.\u003cbr/\u003eThe economy depends on its agriculture - mostly rice and wheat - and the villagers work in the fields to support themselves.\u003cbr/\u003eBut besides its beauty, there is something even more remarkable about the region.\u003cbr/\u003eIranian folklore says the Alborz mountain range has magical properties - it's said to be home to the Deev - a flying giant who eats humans - and other creatures.\u003cbr/\u003eThere's also the \"Spring of Youth\" - which apparently refers to many of the region's natural waterfalls and springs.\u003cbr/\u003eAnd it's this \"Water of Life\" which is said to be responsible for the longevity of the region's inhabitants.\u003cbr/\u003eAccording to Iranian media, more than 400 men and women aged over 100 live in Kelardasht - including two women thought to be the world's oldest.\u003cbr/\u003eThe region's inhabitants are all Kurds - brought here as a mercenary fighting force used in local and feudal wars.\u003cbr/\u003eThey have retained their own traditions and dialect and live in a hard working and matriarchal society.\u003cbr/\u003eThe elderly are happy and healthy and attribute this well-being to the waters of the springs.\u003cbr/\u003eThey are cared for by their families and -
