Two wily Australian filmmakers has just launched the world's very first online short film festival.\u003cbr/\u003eAnd while the 'Sideon Net Fest' is unlikely to give the organisers of that annual Cannes film bash any sleepless nights, it did prove popular with net surfing film buffs.\u003cbr/\u003eIn keeping with the democratic spirit of the net, every visitor to the web site is a judge who is given the chance to watch and vote for their favourite short films  all from their comfort of their living room.\u003cbr/\u003eMore than 130 films were posted on the site for the chance to pick up the AUS$10,000 prize money in each category. The categories include best Australian short film, best screenplay, best director, best animation, best actor and best actress.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe organisers, PAUL MISBRENER and LUKE TORREVILLAS, managed to secure corporate sponsorship and also the help of data streaming company ITV World, to launch the site at www.sideon.com.au.\u003cbr/\u003eAnd the first fest proved to be an enormous success with 130 films chosen from an entry list of 900 films. The site received more than 60,000 hits.\u003cbr/\u003eFor the more conventionally minded cinemaphile, the films were also being screened in Sydney.\u003cbr/\u003eThe films were posted on the site on January 20th with the nine best then reposted on January 23rd for the last day of voting.  \u003cbr/\u003eWinners were announced on Tuesday 26th.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe organisers are now planning to launch another world first later this year an international online short film festival.  \u003cbr/\u003eThey expect a huge response from the States where there are about 700 flim schools. Each of these schools have a minimum of 30 pupils in each class who are asked to make a film, so there could be a massive number of entries.  \u003cbr/\u003eAmong the winners were SEED, from producer, writer and director BRUCE REDMOND, who picked up the award for best script, and TIMBER TRAUMA from producer MARK THOMAS and director STUART MORLEY which won best Australian short and best direction awards.\u003cbr/\u003eThe other big winners were :\u003cbr/\u003eBest Acting  \"Threaded\"  Arianthe Galani\u003cbr/\u003eBest Editing  Seed  editor  David Halliday\u003cbr/\u003eBest Cinematography
