land to a Hindu shrine in this Muslim-majority region.\u003cbr/\u003eProtesters marched through the streets of Srinagar, capital of Jammu and Kashmir state, chanting pro-independence slogans.\u003cbr/\u003ePolice fired tear gas to disperse the protesters who threw stones at police in return. \u003cbr/\u003eAP Television showed people carrying at least one injured man into a small vehicle and away from the scene. \u003cbr/\u003eIt is not clear how many people were injured in Saturday's protests. \u003cbr/\u003eThree people have died and dozens injured - including at least 22 police officers - since Monday as police have struggled to control angry mobs protesting against the transfer of 99 acres (40 hectares) of land by the state government to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, a trust running a popular Hindu shrine.\u003cbr/\u003eProtesters accuse the Indian government of planning to build Hindu settlements in India's only Muslim majority state in order to change the demographic balance in the region.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Amarnath shrine is a cave that housed a large icicle revered by Hindus as an incarnation of the Lord Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction and regeneration. \u003cbr/\u003eHundreds of thousands of Hindus, who consider the cave sacred, are currently on an annual pilgrimage to visit the cave.\u003cbr/\u003eThe protests come as Pakistan's foreign minister said on Friday his government was eager to find a solution at next month's peace talks to the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir, which has been at the heart of the bitter dispute between his country and India.\u003cbr/\u003eIndia and Pakistan have fought three wars - two over Kashmir - since gaining independence from Britain six decades ago, but relations have improved since
