treatment to HIV-positive pregnant women. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) says the state is refusing treatment which could halve the number of babies born HIV-positive. \u003cbr/\u003eAt present some 70,000 babies a year are born infected. \u003cbr/\u003eAccording to studies one anti-retroviral tablet to a woman in labour and half a teaspoon of syrup to her baby within 72 hours of birth can prevent about half of all mother-to-child transmissions of HIV. \u003cbr/\u003eThe TAC says it has been trying for four years to get the government to provide safe and affordable treatment in a country where 11% of the population are HIV-positive. \u003cbr/\u003eAbout 85% of paediatric admissions to hospitals are
