United States.\u003cbr/\u003eKostunica was speaking after meeting U-S President George W Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and national security adviser Condoleezza Rice.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Yugoslav leader says he was told that the United States would support his government's bid for international aid.\u003cbr/\u003eBut he hinted that Washington would still keep up pressure on Belgrade to cooperate with the U-N war crimes tribunal in The Hague.\u003cbr/\u003eThe U-S wants Kostunica to hand over his predecessor, Slobodan Milosevic to the U-N court.\u003cbr/\u003eBelgrade has been reluctant to do that -- instead opting to try the jailed former president at home on corruption charges.\u003cbr/\u003eKostunica said he was told in the White House meeting that the United States Secretary of State Colin Powell later was in New York Tuesday, urged the West to allow Yugoslavia to rebuild at its own pace. \u003cbr/\u003eThat included allowing it to punish its war criminals.\u003cbr/\u003e\"As if (our) problems were not enough, we have to cope with the West's reluctance to give us a chance to build our institutions and establish the rule of law by allowing our judiciaries to implement national laws and to try war-crimes suspects,\" Kostunica said.\u003cbr/\u003eAfter Kostunica had left eh White House, Bush's spokesperson said the president had warned the Yugoslav leader that U-S aid to the new democracy depends on Belgrade's cooperation with the war crimes tribunal investigating Slobodan Milosevic and other suspects.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The president
