Various of DDR (Disarmament , De-mobilisation and Reintegration) people working \u003cbr/\u003eUnited States Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage held talks in Kabul with Afghan President-elect Hamid Karzai on Tuesday on security issues in the region and on efforts to rebuild Afghanistan.\u003cbr/\u003eArmitage, who arrived in Afghanistan on Tuesday for a two-day visit, is the most senior senior US official to visit the country since Karzai's election win last month.   \u003cbr/\u003eHe also visited an Afghan vocational training centre in Kabul on Wednesday, where Afghan militias are being re-training as part of the DDR (Disarmament, De-mobilisation and Reintegration) process in the country. \u003cbr/\u003eDuring his visit at the centre, Armitage told media the DDR process was 'the key to successful parliamentary elections in the spring'.\u003cbr/\u003eLocal and parliamentary elections are to be held on schedule in the Afghan month of Saur, which runs from April 20 to May 20, 2005. \u003cbr/\u003eArmitage also said he was praying for three UN hostages in Afghanistan while indicating America will blank the kidnappers' demand for the release of jailed militants.\u003cbr/\u003eA Taliban splinter group says 26 prisoners must be freed if they are to spare the lives of the three foreign election workers, who were abducted 13 days ago in the Afghan capital.\u003cbr/\u003eSome may be in the custody of the Afghan government. But others may be held at US military bases in Afghanistan or even in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.\u003cbr/\u003eMilitary officials in Afghanistan have declined to say whether it will release any suspects. But visiting Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage said there was little room for manoeuvre.\u003cbr/\u003eArmitage has already visited Iraq and Pakistan and is due to attend Sheikh Zayed bin
