South Africa refusing to comment to journalists on the proceedings after the first day of his hearing.  \u003cbr/\u003eInside the courtroom, Mark Thatcher's lawyers argued against an order forcing him to answer questions about an alleged coup attempt that failed in Equatorial Guinea. \u003cbr/\u003eThe hearings on Tuesday and Wednesday focus on the legality of the government subpoena of Thatcher, a businessman who has lived in South African since 1995.  \u003cbr/\u003eHe was arrested in Cape Town on August 25. \u003cbr/\u003eEquatorial Guinea wants to question a number of prominent Britons, including Thatcher, about allegations they financed a plot earlier this year to overthrow President Teodoro Obiang Nguema, who has ruled Africa's third-largest oil producer for the past 25 years. \u003cbr/\u003eThatcher was subpoenaed after the South African government granted an Equatorial Guinea request to question him about the allegations.  \u003cbr/\u003eThatcher's lawyers argued, however, that it was unconstitutional to subpoena him to respond to those questions while he has related South African charges pending. \u003cbr/\u003eNineteen people are on trial in Equatorial Guinea in connection with the plot, including Nick Du Toit, a South African arms dealer alleged to have led an advance team. \u003cbr/\u003eDu Toit, the only suspect facing the death penalty, has testified that he met with Thatcher and others in the months before the alleged coup attempt.\u003cbr/\u003eThatcher's lawyers have maintained his innocence, saying he will cooperate with authorities. \u003cbr/\u003eThatcher left the High Court looking relaxed.  \u003cbr/\u003eHe told waiting journalists that he could not comment at this stage and pre-empt the judges decision on the case. \u003cbr/\u003eLast month Simon Mann, a former British special forces commander and noted soldier of fortune accused of masterminding the failed coup plot, was sentenced to seven years in prison for trying to buy weapons from Zimbabwe's state arms manufacturer. \u003cbr/\u003eMann's 67 accused co-conspirators, arrested when their aging Boeing 727 landed at the Harare International Airport on
