It was headed by an individual called \"Deviator\". Since that time it has expanded, principally to compete with other gangs in Europe and America. Various shots of the US Customs Service's Cyber Smuggling Operations Centre\u003cbr/\u003ePolice in five countries including Australia, have served warrants against people accused of stealing software in an international software piracy ring. \u003cbr/\u003eU.S. Federal agents seized computers in 27 American cities on Tuesday morning to gain evidence against the computer hackers.\u003cbr/\u003eThey alleged the people targeted in the raids stole and distributed all types of media, including Microsoft Windows operating systems, computer games and high-quality copies of new movies like \"Harry Potter\" and \"Monsters, Inc.\" \u003cbr/\u003eThe raids, dubbed \"Operation Buccaneer,\" were directed at 62 people in Australia, Finland, England, Norway and the United States. The agents said they have leads in 20 other countries.\u003cbr/\u003eU.S. Customs agents have so far seized 65 computers around the world with pirated software and are on the trail of another 65 to bring the total to 130 computers.\u003cbr/\u003eAlan Doody, Director of the U.S. Customs Service's Cyber Smuggling team said that typically such computers or 'drop boxes' typically contained between 5 and 20 thousand software titles. \u003cbr/\u003eThe printed directory for one of the computers alone ran to 4200 printed pages. \u003cbr/\u003eAccording to Doody the Customs office is in the process of serving 57 simultaneous search warrants, 37 in the U.S. and 19 in foreign countries. \u003cbr/\u003eDoody said the Customs office had uncovered at least 62 suspects globally and more are being tracked down. 5 search warrants have been served in Australia, 10 in England, 2 in Finland and 2 in Norway.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Business Software Alliance, a group of software companies, estimate the industry loses 12 (b) billion U.S. dollars a year because of software piracy.\u003cbr/\u003eSuspects in the sting operation ranged from university students to executives in major software companies. \u003cbr/\u003eTypically, Doody said, there were software industry or movie industry 'insiders' in the pirate groups who had access to valuable new computer software and films. \u003cbr/\u003eOne software 'cracker' known by the Cyber-nickname \"Forcekill\" was one of the premier software pirates, Mr.Doody said, and another who went by the name \"Dezzy\" had figured out how to defeat the
