and killing six people from the same family, residents said.\u003cbr/\u003eTel Rifat is about  25 miles (40 kilometres) north of Aleppo, where the Syrian government allegedly launched a ground assault on Wednesday on the besieged city.\u003cbr/\u003eThe area in and around Syria's second city has been the centre of battles between government forces and opposition fighters for more than two weeks.\u003cbr/\u003eResidents in Tel Rifat inspected the damage on Wednesday, which included flattened houses and a school that bears little resemblance to its once former self.\u003cbr/\u003eLocals found buildings damaged and debris scattered across the school's courtyard.\u003cbr/\u003eSalman Najjar, a local resident, alleged that the Syrian army used MIG fighter jets and bombed the Tadamor high school for girls.\u003cbr/\u003eOne of the bombs hit a home and killed the family inside, witnesses said. \u003cbr/\u003eHours later, all that remained of the small home in the village was a tangled pile of rubble and iron bars. \u003cbr/\u003eNeighbours said the six were members of the Blaw family: the grandfather, his adult daughter and son, the son's wife and two of their cousins.\u003cbr/\u003eIt was unclear why the area was targeted. \u003cbr/\u003eResidents said government forces often shelled the village, but that this had been the first air strike. \u003cbr/\u003eThey acknowledged that there were some rebels in the village, though an Associated Press reporter saw no armed men during a brief drive through the area.\u003cbr/\u003eResidents said the Blaw family was not involved in the uprising.\u003cbr/\u003eNajjar said the attacks were \"random\" and in his opinion they were often carried out by the army in revenge for losses to the rebels or to draw attention away from Aleppo.\u003cbr/\u003eHe added the residents in and around Allepo have paid a \"high price\" for the uprising.\u003cbr/\u003eThe international community has widely condemned the Syrian regime's use of fighter planes in the civil war. \u003cbr/\u003eThe attention has focused on the struggle for Aleppo, but Wednesday's attack shows that the regime is using such methods elsewhere.\u003cbr/\u003eChaos is mounting inside Syria as the country's civil war deepens.\u003cbr/\u003ePresident Bashar Assad's regime has suffered a series of setbacks over the past month. \u003cbr/\u003eFour senior security officials were assassinated in Damascus, there have been a string of high-level defections including the prime minister this week, and government forces have struggled to put down rebel challenges in Damascus and Aleppo.\u003cbr/\u003eBut the regime has far more powerful weapons than the rebels and retains a firm grip on much of the
