two of those have died.\u003cbr/\u003eIn Britain, where an outbreak of mad cow disease was first detected in the late 1980s, around 80 people have died from the human variant.\u003cbr/\u003eConcern over the illness is rife following an upsurge in the number of B-S-E cases detected in French cattle. \u003cbr/\u003eFears over the safety of beef grip France has forced the government to take drastic measures - such as banning cuts of meat like T-bone steaks and put a temporary ban on all livestock feed containing meat  - to reassure an increasingly-concerned public.\u003cbr/\u003eBeef has also been taken off the menu in many school campaigns and sales have slumped.\u003cbr/\u003eItaly on Friday banned most imports of French beef products.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (France)\u003cbr/\u003e\"We want to know the truth about what I would call a poisoning.
