Wide members talking \u003cbr/\u003eThe  International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Tuesday concluded its penultimate inspection of Beijing's Olympic venue completion ahead of the 2008 Games .\u003cbr/\u003eSpeaking at the beginning of meetings on Tuesday, IOC Coordination Commission chairman Hein Verbruggen likened Olympic preparations to a marathon.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It is like a long-distance runner,\" Verbruggen said. \"Our final sprint could be the difference between a gold medal and silver medal when it comes to the organisation of the games.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe visit is the penultimate by IOC inspectors before the games open August 8. \u003cbr/\u003eThe final visit is set for late January.\u003cbr/\u003eWith 36 of the 37 competition venues set to be completed by the end of the year, the environment has moved to the top of the agenda. The other venue, the 91-thousand seat Bird's Nest stadium, will be ready in March.\u003cbr/\u003eVerbruggen and China sports minister Liu Peng said test events this year had been largely successful.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Many of the participants and the international federations gave us great optimism for the games next August, especially because we still have some time to deal with the issues that did crop up during these sports events,\" Verbruggen said.\u003cbr/\u003eHe also lauded the Olympic equestrian venue in Hong Kong, which IOC inspectors visited on Monday.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We are seeing top quality venues being built for the Games and, with a strong equestrian tradition in Hong Kong, we are convinced we will see some great equestrian performances in 2008,\" he said.\u003cbr/\u003eFok Tsun Ting, the President of the Olympic Committee of Hong Kong told AP Television the key to successful equestrian events involved the co-operation of the entire city. \u003cbr/\u003e\"That's very important. to dominate the meetings between Beijing Olympic organisers and the International Olympic Committee: will plans be successful to keep air pollution from reaching choking levels when the games open in 10 months?\u003cbr/\u003eAir quality in the smog-plagued Chinese capital has come under intense scrutiny since IOC president Jacques Rogge suggested 2 1/2 months ago that unsafe levels of pollutants in the city might force some outdoor endurance events to be postponed.\u003cbr/\u003eBehind closed doors, Verbruggen is sure to press Liu Qi, president of the organising committee, and other top officials about how they plan to guarantee clean air during the games.\u003cbr/\u003eRogge is also certain to be pressed about it. \u003cbr/\u003eHe is set to address a conference on sport and the environment, which is scheduled to dovetail with the coordination commission talks.\u003cbr/\u003eEarlier this month Rogge repeated his warning about pollution's threat to the Beijing
