And actually until recently, we''d have placed those implants and allowed them to heal again for eight to ten weeks before putting teeth on the implants.\"\u003cbr/\u003e26. minimally invasive procedure.\u003cbr/\u003eWhile it can''t prevent  the often scary visits to the dentist altogether, it can cut down on how long surgery takes -- which dentists are claiming can happen in under an hour.\u003cbr/\u003eMrs Jones (who does not wish to be further identified) has long wanted to have the false teeth in her upper jaw replaced.\u003cbr/\u003eShe said she didn''t like the feeling of the denture plate on her palate and wanted a set of teeth she could call her own.\u003cbr/\u003eShe could have had conventional surgery to put a bridge into her upper jaw.\u003cbr/\u003eBut conventional dental surgery has often involved several long procedures with about eight to ten weeks of recovery time in between.\u003cbr/\u003eDentists traditionally have not been able to locate strong bones to affix dentures to without surgery, usually using a general anaesthetic.\u003cbr/\u003eMrs. Jones has instead chosen the latest technology to give her a new smile - in less time.\u003cbr/\u003eThe new procedure is called Nobel Guide.\u003cbr/\u003eIt involves computer-aided design (CAD) software, computerised tomography (CT) scans, three-dimensional prints and moulds of the patient''s mouth.\u003cbr/\u003eDr. Andrew Dawood, based in the UK capital, London, is Mrs. Jones dentist.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says that the conventional procedure would involve peeling back the gums to look at the bones so that he can make sure the dentures are being placed to the strongest bone - something he can now avoid.\u003cbr/\u003eDr. Dawood has taken CT scans of Mrs. Jones mouth, which are then fed to a virtual surgery computer software program.\u003cbr/\u003eThis allows for all the surgery to be done on computers and with careful planning.\u003cbr/\u003eA three dimensional printer develops a mould of each patient''s mouth to help the dentist determine how to treat each case before a single cut is made.\u003cbr/\u003eIn essence, determining where the strongest bones are, building a set of dentures that will fit each individual''s mouth and the actual surgery affixing the dentures happens in a single day as opposed to several different appointments. \u003cbr/\u003eAlso, a local anaesthetic is used as opposed to a general anaesthetic, cutting down on recovery time.\u003cbr/\u003eThe technology allows for greater accuracy when drilling, providing stability for the implants at the time of surgery, according to Dr. Dawood.\u003cbr/\u003eAnother advantage is that the excellent anchorage can support temporary teeth immediately.\u003cbr/\u003eDr. Dawood also says this technology has a particular advantage in situations where there is very little bone and not much room to place an implant. \u003cbr/\u003eThe first phase of this type of technology was originally developed by a researcher in Belgium called Professor Van Steenberg.\u003cbr/\u003eThe current methods have been further developed by a Swedish/American
