Various of hall and Mbeki listening to speech\u003cbr/\u003eGovernment ministers, African dignitaries and ordinary South Africans filed past Walter Sisulu's coffin on Friday night to say goodbye to the anti-apartheid hero.\u003cbr/\u003eSouth African President Thabo Mbeki and former Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda, a legendary African liberation leader, were first in line to view Sisulu's body as it lay in state in a packed hall in the black township of Soweto.\u003cbr/\u003eWomen danced and sang liberation songs before Sisulu's coffin arrived at Uncle Tom's community hall, where young activists once gathered to organise their battles with apartheid police in the 1970s and 1980s.\u003cbr/\u003eAhmed Kathrada, an old friend who had shared a cell with Sisulu for five years at the notorious prison on Robben Island, praised Sisulo's work as an architect of the 'new South Africa'. \u003cbr/\u003eAn anti-apartheid fighter for more than 60 years, Sisulu brought Nelson Mandela into the ANC and co-founded its militant youth league with him and Oliver Tambo.\u003cbr/\u003eHe was jailed repeatedly in the 1950s and 1960s before he and a group of ANC comrades, including Mandela, were convicted in 1964 of plotting anti-government sabotage.\u003cbr/\u003eSisulu spent more than 25 years in jail, before his release in 1989.\u003cbr/\u003eThough he did not take a government position when the ANC came to power in the country's first all-race elections in 1994, he set a moral example for the nation, ANC leaders said.\u003cbr/\u003eGovernment officials expected 50,000 people to squeeze into a soccer stadium on Saturday for Sisulu's state funeral, which was to be conducted by Archbishop Desmond Tutu.\u003cbr/\u003eAn array of African officials, including Zimbabwean President
