Various people exercising \u003cbr/\u003eBoot-camp-style programs are the number one fitness trend for the year in LA as consumers look to workouts that provide multiple benefits during these tough economic times. \u003cbr/\u003eAccording to The American Council on Exercise (ACE) which surveyed personal trainers, group fitness professionals and lifestyle and weight management consultants, for their 2009 trend list, boot camps ranked number one for their tough workouts, stress reduction, weight losses benefits and confidence building. \u003cbr/\u003eJogging their way to fitness - LA style. \u003cbr/\u003eAccording to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) boot camps are an excellent way to build aerobic capacity and lose weight. \u003cbr/\u003eThey include interval training comprising of high intensity exercises interspersed with lower aerobic moves that help build muscle strength. \u003cbr/\u003eBoot Camp L.A. is one of the premiere fitness, training and healthy living boot camp programs in Los Angeles. \u003cbr/\u003eJay Kerwin, veteran owner and founder says boot camp is much more of a total-body workout than just going out for a run or bicycle ride.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's simple, not tied to just a single piece of equipment, and the motivating team-oriented atmosphere helps keep stamina up.\u003cbr/\u003eMost boot camps are a good blend of military style aerobic movements and strength moves. \u003cbr/\u003eThis boot camp is military style but not abusive. This is more of friendly group team program. \u003cbr/\u003eDespite the $295 USD a month for 12 sessions, three times a week at either 6am, 7:15am, 8:30am or 6:15pm, Kerwin says the recession has actually helped his business. \u003cbr/\u003eDenise Pelton, an advertising executive, says she loves the confidence these classes give her. \u003cbr/\u003eTrent Vernon, Technicolor technician, says he improved his blood test results. \u003cbr/\u003eAnn Cox, a librarian, has been taking boot camp classes for 6 years even before they were popular and says they have totally changed her life and made her feel younger. \u003cbr/\u003eTo analyze the benefits of boot camp workouts, exercise scientists from the University of Wisconsin found that the average exerciser burns approximately 9.8 calories per minute during a typical boot-camp class. That translates into nearly 400 calories for a 40- minute class. \u003cbr/\u003eMuscle-building comes from pushups, arm curls and squats that you wouldn't get during a fast walk or jog. \u003cbr/\u003eDr. Eric McGary, Kaiser Permanente, says boot camp classes are popular because students like the structured classes that they must commit to.\u003cbr/\u003eMcGary adds the classes can prevent certain medical conditions, including reducing stroke by 20 per cent and less weight means less chance of developing diabetes. \u003cbr/\u003eAcross town, Hollywood Boot Camp is a very different type of class. This is less intense and there are no military cheers. \u003cbr/\u003eHere the goal is to create a different atmosphere from an indoor gym where people can bond in friendship. \u003cbr/\u003eDulcinea Lee Hellings, founder, says boot camps are so popular now because people want to get out into the open air especially in California and they are effective fitness programs. \u003cbr/\u003eStudents sign up for 5 weeks at a time. \u003cbr/\u003eJosh Humiston, a music agent, loves the team spirit. \u003cbr/\u003eNot all boot-camp workouts are the same, with some offering heavy cardiovascular
