after months of testimony.\u003cbr/\u003eLord Ranald Sutherland, the president of the court, said the judges would reconvene on January 30, but would not deliver a ruling on that date, although they may then be in a position to indicate when they would be ready to give a judgment.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Libyan defendants, Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi and Lamen Khalifa Fhimah, are accused of planting plastic explosive in a radio cassette player concealed in a hard-shell suitcase on board the doomed aircraft. \u003cbr/\u003eThe resulting blast killed eleven people on the ground and 259 in the air on December 21, 1988.\u003cbr/\u003eThe bomb was sent from Malta with stolen tags routing it via Frankfurt, Germany, to Flight 103 in London, according to the indictment.\u003cbr/\u003eIf convicted of murder, Al-Megrahi, 48, and Fhimah, 44, would face life imprisonment in Scotland. \u003cbr/\u003eThe panel of four Scottish High Court justices adjourned the trial after 84 days of hearings which began on May 3 last year at Camp Zeist, a former U-S air base in the Netherlands.\u003cbr/\u003eDefence attorneys finished a week of summations by insisting the prosecution had not proven their case against the Libyans.\u003cbr/\u003eAnd they cast doubt on the star prosecution witness, a former C-I-A mole in Libyan intelligence identified as Abdel Majid Giaka who now lives in the United States under the witness protection program.\u003cbr/\u003eGiaka testified in September last year that he saw Al-Megrahi and Fhimah sneak a suspicious suitcase past customs at Luqa airport on the Mediterranean island of Malta on the eve of the attack.\u003cbr/\u003eAl-Megrahi's counsel, William Taylor, suggested Giaka had lied in order to get a U-S immigration visa and a share of an F-B-I reward.\u003cbr/\u003eAnd Fhimah's counsel, Richard Keen, pointed out as further evidence of Giaka's unreliability as a witness his subsequent denials in court of earlier statements he had made while under oath.\u003cbr/\u003eKeen went on to ridicule prosecutors' claims that there was so much evidence pointing to Fhimah that guilt could be inferred even without the spy's testimony, while Taylor called the prosecutors' case \"a wholly circumstantial one\" built on unconnected strands of evidence.\u003cbr/\u003eAl-Megrahi and Fhimah insist they are innocent, and have suggested the attack was the work of Palestinian terrorists who attacked U-S and Jewish targets in northern Europe in the late 1980s.\u003cbr/\u003eThe trial is being held at Camp Zeist as a result of an agreement between the
