Close up CD going into deck\u003cbr/\u003eEnglish/Nat\u003cbr/\u003eRock legend Bruce Springsteen emerged triumphant from London's High Court on Thursday, having won a two year legal battle over copyright on early recordings of his music.\u003cbr/\u003eThe judge blocked the release of an unauthorised collection of songs recorded early in his career.\u003cbr/\u003eSpringsteen had argued that the release of \"Before the Fame\" would damage his artistic integrity because the songs did not meet his high standards.\u003cbr/\u003eBruce Springsteen was a very happy man when he emerged from the High Court having won his battle to retain control over his own music.\u003cbr/\u003eHe was awarded U-S 825-thousand dollars court costs against Masquerade Music which contended it had a legal right to a batch of early songs recorded between 1972-74.\u003cbr/\u003eMasquerade Music said it was licensed to use them by Jim Cretecos, a member of Springsteen's former management team who claimed he owned the rights.\u003cbr/\u003eBut Judge Francis Ferris ruled that Springsteen owned the 19 songs, and ordered Masquerade to pay his costs. \u003cbr/\u003eSpringsteen sounded like he'd just won an Oscar.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Can I just say I'd like to thank the judge, and I'd like to thank the English courts and I'd like to thank Laurence Gilmore and Nigel Davies, my barrister John Evans and Steve Hayes and Peter Parcher, my attorneys in the States. It's the way that you shape your career and who you are, you know. It's one of the most important things to a songwriter in the world. It's something that I have fought for since I was very young, you know, the control of my music. We thought round one would go like that. He's obviously followed the natural justice line that Bruce wrote them so he must own them. Almost if Bruce says it's right it must be right. We'll definitely going to appeal there aren't any documents at all to support the case. Just because Bruce says it's right can't be just the end of it. \u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Ron Winter, Managing Director, Masquerade Music\u003cbr/\u003eRon Winter was formerly owner of the hugely successful label, K-Tel Records.\u003cbr/\u003eGold discs from that era line his boardroom in north London.\u003cbr/\u003eThat success has allowed him to take on the enormously costly battle over the recordings.\u003cbr/\u003eAlthough many others have tried, they have balked at the spiralling expense of taking a wealthy musician to court.\u003cbr/\u003eSpeaking to APTN before the verdict, Winter said that he'd been provoked into taking the action after Springsteen's lawyer taunted him by saying his client had 179 million dollars in his bank account.\u003cbr/\u003eIf he had won,  Winter would stands to make several million dollars through the sale of the music - much of which is currently available in the United States anyway. \u003cbr/\u003eHe admits that's the driving force behind his action. \u003cbr/\u003e\"There is a degree of principle obviously. There is something fairly offensive about I am a multi millionaire, I'm a rock icon, I'm going to railroad something whether it's right or wrong. But there is a serious commercial consideration behind everything that's being done. If I wasn't entirely content that the documents were right - and indeed they're still unchallenged by Springsteen's camp I wouldn't have pursued the matter.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Ron Winter,
