Association combines environmentally friendly farming, with teaching essential skills to those with disabilities in order to produce organic food for commercial sale.\u003cbr/\u003eDozens of young people with mental disabilities are being taught farming and cooking skills at a farm near the Pakistani city of Lahore. \u003cbr/\u003eFrom the outside it looks like any of the millions of farms across rural Pakistan, but the Roshni Association is a therapy centre and organic farm designed to help people with learning difficulties or mental disabilities. \u003cbr/\u003eAs a developing country struggling to maintain political stability and growth as a state, Pakistan has yet to build an adequate free health system for its 190 million strong population. \u003cbr/\u003eThere are few, if any, institutions either public or private with the expertise to treat people with psychological and developmental disabilities. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Roshni Association is a charity that allows young adults from all social classes to work and learn skills that help them play a fuller role in society. \u003cbr/\u003eTariq Mirza's son Vassay Mirza attends the Roshni Association. \u003cbr/\u003eHe says that its emphasis on useful skills helps the students integrate more into the world around them. \u003cbr/\u003eTraditional Pakistani farming methods are implemented to grow produce like wheat, potatoes, lettuce, spinach and okra, which are then used by the students in the kitchens to make bread, cakes, quiches and other food products.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe centre takes a holistic approach to farming and food production. \u003cbr/\u003eFarm animals are allowed to roam and graze freely on the well-kept farmyard, thus improving the quality of the meat and  increasing animal welfare standards. \u003cbr/\u003eEverything that grows and lives here is nurtured and considered valuable to the entire ethos of Roshni. \u003cbr/\u003eAli Adnan Chaudhry is one of the psychologists working at the Roshni Association. \u003cbr/\u003eHe says that a range of mental illnesses and psychological problems can benefit from Roshni's hands-on approach and overall philosophy.\u003cbr/\u003eStudents work with trained Pakistani professionals and European volunteers who teach them useful skills like coordination and working with their hands. \u003cbr/\u003eThe experience helps to improve the students' confidence and self esteem. \u003cbr/\u003eShahida Perveen and her German husband Hamid Helmut Hannessen established the centre in Lahore in 2001. \u003cbr/\u003eShe had trained as a teacher and worked in Germany for several years, but had long held a desire to put her skills and experience to good use in her native Pakistan. \u003cbr/\u003eAfter years of planning and fundraising they finally moved - along with several volunteers - from Germany to Pakistan. \u003cbr/\u003eAll the goods produced at Roshni end up in shops like this across Lahore, where they are slowly becoming popular as people become more aware of the harmful effects of genetically modified foods and pesticides. \u003cbr/\u003eHowever, while demand for organic food is growing at a rapid pace in the West, it's yet to become as popular in Pakistan whose growth markets are predominately in convenience and fast food. \u003cbr/\u003eIt remains to be seen if Pakistan's consumers will mirror the trends of their Western
