Blinking indicates the fuel consumption threshold, and the non-optimal zone is signalled in yellow. \u003cbr/\u003eNissan says the system, which will be available next year (2009), can help drivers improve fuel efficiency 5 to 10 percent.\u003cbr/\u003eDrivers can also opt to switch the system off.\u003cbr/\u003eThe highlight of Singapore's 9th motor show in September was the world's first underwater car which is being showcased for the first time in Asia. \u003cbr/\u003eThe 'sQuba,' by Swiss designer Rinspeed looks like a sports car on the road, but it can plough through the water at a depth of 10 metres (30 feet) and has electrical motors to turn an underwater screw.\u003cbr/\u003eThe 'sQuba' may conjure up memories of James Bond's amphibious Lotus Esprit from \"The Spy Who Loved Me,\" a car that resembled an airtight submarine - in fact it was this fictional car that inspired the designers. \u003cbr/\u003eThe interior is resistant to salt water, allowing the driver to plunge into the sea.\u003cbr/\u003ePassengers are able to keep breathing underwater through an integrated tank of compressed air similar to that used in scuba diving.\u003cbr/\u003eThe vehicle cost more than 1.5 million US dollars to make and its creators say that the biggest challenge was to make it watertight and pressure-resistant enough to be able to manoeuvre underwater.\u003cbr/\u003eSeveral classic cars celebrated anniversaries in 2008. \u003cbr/\u003eFrance's most iconic car, the Citroen 2CV, celebrated its 60th anniversary in October. \u003cbr/\u003eFor almost half a century, the 2CV revolutionised the French car industry and became a major part of the country's culture and way of life.\u003cbr/\u003eBut the granddaddy of all cars, the Model T Ford, celebrated its centenary in September. \u003cbr/\u003eOne hundred years ago Henry Ford began production of his Model T Ford in Detroit, USA.\u003cbr/\u003eEventually it was to be produced in thirty two countries around the world, bringing motoring to the masses.\u003cbr/\u003eThis one belongs to a private collector in the south of England.\u003cbr/\u003eRoger Florio is a member of the Model T Register, a group of Model T enthusiasts. \u003cbr/\u003eHe thinks the car was the greatest invention ever created.\u003cbr/\u003eThe first production Model T was built on September 27 1908 at the Piquette Plant in Detroit, Michigan.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Model T was eventually manufactured in more than 30 countries. Over 15 million of them were sold. \u003cbr/\u003eBy 1922 every second car sold in the world was a Model T.\u003cbr/\u003eHowever, as 2008 the year drew to a close the recession began to have an impact across much of the developed world. \u003cbr/\u003eThe US federal government will provide $17.4 billion in short-term financing to the troubled U.S. automakers.\u003cbr/\u003eA senior administration official, speaking (on Friday Dec 19) on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue, said $13.4 billion in short-term financing will be drawn from the $700 billion Wall Street rescue programme, with another $4 billion to be added later. \u003cbr/\u003eIt can't  come soon enough for carmakers suffering from their slowest sales in 26 years and dwindling operating cash.\u003cbr/\u003ePresident elect Barack Obama said earlier this month that he supports a bailout, but insists that the auto industry needs to change the way in works in future. \u003cbr/\u003eThe production.\u003cbr/\u003eCar makers in Europe are also affected by the economic crisis. \u003cbr/\u003eThe German auto industry's leading trade group says it expects 2.9 million new car registrations \u003cbr/\u003eAn additional 8,000 to 10,000 part-time positions have been shed in the last month. \u003cbr/\u003eIn the United Kingdom the Nissan plant in the north east town of Sunderland is halting production for a fortnight to adjust to falling demand. \u003cbr/\u003eThe move will affect 850 of the 5,100 people who work at the plant. \u003cbr/\u003eToyota, Ford and Landrover have also announced
