They're...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eIn Bahrain, this is a rare treat.\u003cbr/\u003eBallet is not something that's really taken hold in the island kingdom yet - or in the Gulf as a whole.\u003cbr/\u003eBut these dancers from Jordan are hoping to get young people hooked and change all that. \u003cbr/\u003eThey're performing the classical ballet \"Scheherazade\" - named after a legendary Persian queen - at this year's youth festival.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We thought that Scheherazade would be a great idea to bring to this festival. It's our first participation in the Bahrain summer festival and because it has an Oriental feel, we thought that it would be a nice introduction to ballet for the Bahraini audiences,\" says Rania Kamhawi, a ballerina and choreographer from the National Centre for Culture and Arts in Jordan. \u003cbr/\u003e\"The Bahraini audiences do not have much ballet at the moment neither does the Gulf as a whole, but the Levant area has moved on so we have a lot of ballet in Jordan, in Syria, in Lebanon. \u003cbr/\u003e\"And we'd like to introduce them to this new form of art because we think it's also a very good tool for communication.\"\u003cbr/\u003eAlthough ballet is still a fairly new phenomenon here, Bahrain generally considers itself as having one of the most vibrant arts scenes in the Gulf region.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It's a great experience for me as I could share my experience and my passion for ballet in different countries and spreading the joy of dance throughout the world,\" says Bijan Qutub, one of the Jordanian ballet performers. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Bahrain is a really great country and I have been really happy with our feedback of our performances.\"\u003cbr/\u003eElsewhere at the festival, a young girl is performing an Indian dance - kitted out in a traditional costume. \u003cbr/\u003eIt seems to have the audience enchanted.\u003cbr/\u003eStepping up the beat, these Tunisian mask dancers also seem to be impressing the young people looking for some inspiration. \u003cbr/\u003e\"I like it here because they mix education with fun. So, for example, I've learnt different dances and it's fun at the same time,\" says Farah Khan, a young Bahraini at the festival.  \u003cbr/\u003e\"Also you learn about culture because there's Indian dancing. Also there is like artsy creative stuff like painting. So it's fun.\"\u003cbr/\u003eFrom the traditional to the more contemporary.\u003cbr/\u003eThese young people are getting a taste of the art of break-dancing - something that's big internationally, but still making its way onto the scene here in Bahrain.\u003cbr/\u003eAbdullah is showing off his skills.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Break-dancing isn't very well known in Bahrain. It's just us the youth,\" he explains.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We try to stay out of trouble. And it is the best thing we've ever found. That's why we try to keep it upgraded and developed. We try to show the younger ones to be like us.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe festival is attracting thousands of people - welcomed by event mascots \"Nakhool\" and \"Nakhoola\" - two palm-tree figures with towering personalities. \u003cbr/\u003eBack inside, it's clear this event is not all about dance.\u003cbr/\u003eFor those who are more creative with their hands than their feet, painting workshops are on offer.\u003cbr/\u003eThere's also a traditional Turkish puppet show in full swing. \u003cbr/\u003eElsewhere, a colourful grand design is taking shape.\u003cbr/\u003eHuvil, a Bahraini street artist, is demonstrating his graffiti skills. \u003cbr/\u003e\"We're a small country. It's only an island. And there's not lots of places to go.
