And then we planned an evacuation yesterday morning from Chad,\" she said.\u003cbr/\u003eA French government minister was quoted on Friday as saying the group had acted \"illegally and irresponsibly.\"\u003cbr/\u003eFrance's Foreign Ministry had warned French citizens months ago against taking in children from Darfur, saying aid groups on the ground there opposed an appeal by Zoe's Arc. \u003cbr/\u003eDiplomatic officials have said an investigation is pending.\u003cbr/\u003eAccording to French officials, L'Arche de Zoe had lined up French host families for the children, saying they were orphans from the crisis-stricken Darfur region of Sudan. Many host families had paid thousands of euros to the charity, French officials say.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We firmly denounce the conditions in which this operation seems to have been organised,\" the ministry said in a statement, pointing to international laws about adoption.\u003cbr/\u003eLefebvre told AP Television that the group asked host families for 3,400 US dollars each to pay for the operation's logistics, but that some had given much less. She stressed that the families were not adopting the children but merely taking them in.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The families are aware of this.
