681 in total - and according to a survey by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, one in every four Brazilians lives in a shanty town. \u003cbr/\u003eDancing their way out of the ghetto.\u003cbr/\u003eThese Brazilian teens come from Rio's infamous shanty towns, or 'favelas'.\u003cbr/\u003eThey're among 35 who've been chosen to take classes at one of Brazil's most famous dance schools.\u003cbr/\u003eThe programme was devised by one of the country's top choreographers.\u003cbr/\u003eIt aims to get talented kids off the streets, and away from a life of crime and drug-taking.\u003cbr/\u003eUPSOT Kiko Alves\u003cbr/\u003eOne of them is Kiko Alves, who teaches theatre to children in his neighbourhood.\u003cbr/\u003eThey see the example that I give, he says - that they can get out of there and be successful, that they'll be noticed.\u003cbr/\u003eFor most children living in the favelas, it's a bleak existence.\u003cbr/\u003eMany will be sucked into the violence and drug trade which blights Brazil's shanty towns.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's a tough cycle to break, but a few children are getting a chance to broaden their horizons.\u003cbr/\u003eFor the youths in the dance programme, the big day's arrived.\u003cbr/\u003eEight months in, and they're about to put on a show in one of Rio's most famous theatres.\u003cbr/\u003eThe one hour production is true to their roots - movement to a mixture of Brazilian rhythms.\u003cbr/\u003eFor many, the joy of being on stage is too much to bear.\u003cbr/\u003eNATSOT dancers crying\u003cbr/\u003eThis is a triumph, says Kiko. I could never have imagined myself in a show here.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's a modest start, but one which is giving them a glimpse of life beyond the
