So this is why we have this great number of films being produced.\" \u003cbr/\u003e32.Various of the River Nile and sunrise \u003cbr/\u003eEgyptian cinema has been an important force in Arab culture for more than a century. \u003cbr/\u003eWith the know-how, famous actors and the technical infrastructure to produce a large number of films, Egyptian cinema has come of age with a new wave of small-scale independent producers and a host \u003cbr/\u003eof television channels which specialise in movies. \u003cbr/\u003eOn set at one of the largest film studios in Cairo. \u003cbr/\u003eThe movie  \"The Baby Doll Night\", is the biggest budget movie ever made in the long history of Egyptian cinema.\u003cbr/\u003eThe actors and actresses are instantly recognised stars throughout the entire Arab world.\u003cbr/\u003eThe company behind the film is a giant multi-media company. It controls the process from set to box office, financing, producing, distributing and even showing the end result in its own cinemas.\u003cbr/\u003eAccording to Adel Adeeb, the director of \"The Baby Doll Night\" and head of film and music at the Good News Group, the Egyptian film industry has been around for over one hundred years and existed in 1895 when the Frenchmen Auguste and Louis Lumiere were credited with the world's first public film screening in Paris's Grand Cafe.\u003cbr/\u003eAdeeb maintains the Egyptian film industry is thriving, producing forty films each year.\u003cbr/\u003eAll the glitz and glamour of Hollywood are on display at the opening of the Cairo Film Festival. \u003cbr/\u003eActresses are keen to see and be seen and filmed on the red carpet to promote their careers.\u003cbr/\u003eBut film critic and journalist, Hala Al Mawy, says what Egypt is seeing is the emergence of a wave of new, independently made, low budget movies which more accurately portray real life in the Arab world today. \u003cbr/\u003eAl Mawy says it's a sign of maturity that these new films are being seen by Egyptian mass audiences. In financial terms the independent film industry has a great deal of catching up to do. The films are shown in festivals abroad, like Cannes, but there is no commercial value as yet. \u003cbr/\u003eGetting cinemas to show films such as Eye of the Sun, was the first major step in getting acceptance for independent films.\u003cbr/\u003eThis movie was produced on a tiny budget by Ibrahim El Batout, a former journalist. El Batout says it's all due to the fact that you no longer need all the paraphernalia of big budget movies to produce a film, as well as the fact that you no longer need censorship approval for the script.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's still the case that the biggest stars are more likely to attract larger audiences and profits. \u003cbr/\u003eThe younger generation of cinema goers are more likely to accept films dealing with sensitive subjects as well as more daring scenes.\u003cbr/\u003eCinema goer Karim Gamel says that scenes that may have been regarded as shocking are now better produced and are a way of the directors' expressing themselves artistically.\u003cbr/\u003eWith an increasing demand for Egyptian films, the number of movies being shot at studios scattered on the outskirts of Cairo is on the up. \u003cbr/\u003eThe films use a large number of actors, but also lighting experts, sound engineers camera men, make-up artists, script writers, and post production assistants.\u003cbr/\u003eYoussef Rizkallah,  who heads Egypt's Cinematographic Centre, says films are finally beginning to attract investment from television channels. It's in their interest because so many movies are seen on television.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's not surprising that film industry insiders here believe that Egypt will remain the biggest producer of Arab films for the foreseeable future, especially as demand is increasing for stars to appear on the small screen. \u003cbr/\u003eNote: The baby Doll  Night was released in June 2008. The plot centres on a man called Houssam who returns home to Cairo for New Year's Eve after a year's separation from his wife. But his plans for a romantic night alone with his wife after a full year of treatment from impotence in the U.S. go awry and involve several comedic
