It is clear it is incontrovertible that elements in the Iranian government are interfering in Iraqi affairs as the secretary of defence pointed out several days ago. We consider this to be unhelpful, we consider it to be contrary to coalition interests and, more importantly, we consider it to be contrary to the interests of the Iraqi people and we think it should stop.\"\u003cbr/\u003e8. Wide shot\u003cbr/\u003eThe leader of Iraq's American-led occupation force took aim at Iran on Tuesday, accusing the neighbouring country of meddling in internal Iraqi affairs.\u003cbr/\u003eHead of the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq, L. Paul Bremer said, \"It is incontrovertible that elements in the Iranian government are interfering in Iraqi affairs, as the secretary of defence pointed out several days ago.\"\u003cbr/\u003eBremer said Iranian influence was \"contrary to coalition interests\" and \"contrary to the interests of the Iraqi people.\"\u003cbr/\u003ePressed for specific examples of Iranian interference, Bremer produced none, saying only that there was \"activity by people who represent elements of the Iranian government who are actively trying to subvert the process of\u003cbr/\u003edemocratisation here in Iraq.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSome US officials have expressed concern that Shiite extremists in Iran would try to stir unrest amid Iraq's own Shiite majority, in a campaign to install an Iran-like theocracy in Baghdad.\u003cbr/\u003eUS Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld said last month that the US-led coalition in Iraq would not permit some \"new form of tyranny\" to replace that of Saddam Hussein. \u003cbr/\u003eRumsfeld also accused Iran of harboring senior al-Qaida members. Iranian officials have denied both accusations.\u003cbr/\u003eBremer also responded to the recent deaths of US soldiers in the country and on the heightened state of alert in effect in Baghdad at present. \u003cbr/\u003eAttacks continue on US soldiers almost daily.
