Various of candlelight vigil outside school \u003cbr/\u003eStudents and residents in the German town of Winnenden have been paying homage to those who died when a teenager went on a shooting spree on Wednesday that started at his former school, killing 15 people.\u003cbr/\u003eAlbertville high school was closed on Thursday, still cordoned off by red and white police tape as investigators pored through the building. \u003cbr/\u003eScores of candles lit by mourners adorned the grounds amid bunches of flowers and notes with messages and questions like \"Why?\"\u003cbr/\u003eMeanwhile, the psychological profile of the gunman began to take shape on Thursday, as investigators described a withdrawn young man from an intact family who broke off psychiatric treatment for depression.\u003cbr/\u003eBut investigators faced a setback as they struggled to authenticate a chat room posting that purportedly warned of a bloody rampage hours before the 17-year-old wreaked havoc on this quiet town near Stuttgart, southwest Germany.\u003cbr/\u003eThe suspect, whose name appears as Tim Kretschmer in police documents, returned to his former high school to kill nine students and three teachers before fleeing on foot and by car, killing three more people, and eventually turning a handgun on himself after a shootout with police.\u003cbr/\u003eA joint statement released late on Thursday by regional police and Stuttgart prosecutors said that, \"in the course of the afternoon, doubts arose about the veracity of the Internet chat.\"\u003cbr/\u003eA police spokesman said a search of Kretschmer's computer had shown no trace of his having made the chat room posting.\u003cbr/\u003eA message posted on Thursday to the site - krautchan.net - said, \"No killing spree was announced here.\" Prosecutors said they were trying to reach the US-based provider of the site.\u003cbr/\u003eAn investigator said authorities had learned that the suspect was treated for depression in 2008, with five visits to a psychiatrist between April and September at an area clinic. \u003cbr/\u003eHe was supposed to continue the treatment at another clinic, but apparently did not show up, the investigator said.\u003cbr/\u003eChild psychologist Judith Tellerman on Thursday said the shooter's notice of his actions on the internet \"sounds like he's bragging but it could also have been somewhat of a cry for help.\"\u003cbr/\u003eTellerman added that  \"we need to let the young people know, who are on the internet, that when someone does make a threat like this please take it very seriously.\"\u003cbr/\u003eDespite the high death toll, the shooting could have been worse if the principal of the high school had not been able to warn teachers with a prearranged code over the public address system when the suspect burst into the school.\u003cbr/\u003eAfter the suspect entered the school in Winnenden on Wednesday morning and opened fire, the principal put the emergency plan in effect, quickly broadcasting a coded message to teachers: \"Frau Koma is coming,\" students told German media.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Then our teacher closed the door and said we should close the windows and sit on the floor,\" a student, identified only as Kim S., told ZDF television.\u003cbr/\u003eIn German the word \"amoklauf\" is used to describe school shootings, and \"koma\" is the reverse of the word \"amok.\" Hetger said the coded alert was worked out by German educators after a deadly school shooting in Erfurt in 2002 as a way to warn teachers.\u003cbr/\u003eState police president said that police in Baden-Wuerttemburg had received special training that involved sending small teams into the building in the event of a school shooting, as happened on Wednesday.\u003cbr/\u003eHe credited this, coupled with the warning from the principal, for preventing further deaths.\u003cbr/\u003eAlthough the gunman shot at the officers as they entered the building, they succeeded in chasing him from the premises.\u003cbr/\u003eAfter he escaped, he hijacked a car and was eventually caught in a police shootout. The rampage ended with 15 victims slain and the assailant taking his own life, authorities said.\u003cbr/\u003eHis victims were primarily female: eight of nine students killed were girls, and all three teachers were women. Three men were killed later by the suspect as he fled.\u003cbr/\u003eThe dark-haired teen, shown wearing glasses in pictures on German television, apparently took the weapon from his father's collection of 15 firearms along with a \"multitude of ammunition,\" police said. His father, a businessman, was a member of the local gun club and kept the weapons locked away except for the pistol, which was kept in the bedroom.\u003cbr/\u003eThe high school was closed on Thursday, still cordoned off by red and white police tape as investigators pored through the building.
