progress, an official said on Wednesday. \u003cbr/\u003eThe project, approved in late 2005 as part of the central government's 11th five year plan, aims to improve basic facilities, like inspection offices and testing labs, in order to improve food and drug supervision in China by 2008, said Yan Jiangying, spokeswoman for the State Food and Drug Administration.\u003cbr/\u003eYan said the foundation was weak and infrastructure and technology still lagged behind. \u003cbr/\u003eShe added without giving specifics that the government chose to announce the two-year-old initiative now because some of the projects had just begun.\u003cbr/\u003eThe announcement, one year before the Olympic Games, seemed to be aimed at allaying fears that China is not doing enough to guarantee the
