welcomed by crowds of survivors desperate for food and other relief supplies.\u003cbr/\u003eMany communities remain almost completely reliant on outside help and each time a US helicopter lands, survivors crowd around, worried it may be the last aid flight to arrive.\u003cbr/\u003eHowever, the presence of US military vessels in Indonesian waters has caused some anxiety and negotiations have been ongoing to smooth over any problems.\u003cbr/\u003eTwo weeks after the tsunami hit, a diplomatic incident blew up after US jets carried out practice take-offs and landings from an aircraft the US an opportunity to try to repair its image in the world's most populous Muslim country.\u003cbr/\u003eHowever, reactions in Indonesia to the US involvement vary widely.\u003cbr/\u003eMembers of Laskar Mujahidin, a subgroup of Majelis Mujahidin, which is an Islamic group with suspected links to al-Qaida, fear the US presence could result in the decay of moral values in Aceh.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Laskar Mujahidin accuse US troops of leaving offending magazines lying about and wearing offensive t-shirts.\u003cbr/\u003eBut many survivors of the disaster say their negative view of the US, based on its actions in Afghanistan and Iraq, has now changed since December 26 in light of all the good work that has been done by US troops and aid distribution.\u003cbr/\u003eSajjan M Gohel, director of International Security at the London-based Asia-Pacific Foundation, said this was a good opportunity for the US to improve relations between the West and Indonesia that had deteriorated substantially
