Various of officers exercising\u003cbr/\u003ePotbellied police in Indonesia's capital have been ordered to slim down, changing their uniforms for tracksuits and trainers twice a week as they line up for aerobics and push-ups in an effort to lose weight. \u003cbr/\u003eAnyone over 100 kilograms (220 pounds) must follow the new diet programme started because of the growing number of overweight officers and a perception that they are unable to provide public protection.\u003cbr/\u003eA Jakarta police spokesman said stress, sedentary lifestyles and junk food have made the capital's police put on unwanted weight. \u003cbr/\u003eThe programme was started last month by police in Tangerang, a city on the outskirts of Jakarta. \u003cbr/\u003eThey hired trainers to help 132 overweight officers get into shape. \u003cbr/\u003eThe programme also involves a medical team that helps to monitor diets and health issues.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The police have a tough task. They should have physical endurance and  good performance,\" said Colonel Wahyu Widada, Tangerang Chief of Police.\u003cbr/\u003eRegistration in the capital began last week and anyone deemed overweight will be required to participate in physical exercise at least twice a week.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We follow a weight loss programme created by our commanders. I feel happy and excited about the programme. I enjoy pursuing this activity,\" said Sergeant Sugiyar.\u003cbr/\u003eThere are plans to expand the programme nationwide.\u003cbr/\u003eNo one will be punished for not losing weight, but the officers are not allowed to skip the exercise sessions. \u003cbr/\u003eThey can work at their own pace, and are not required to follow strict diets. \u003cbr/\u003eSome officers said they have managed to lose up to 2 kilograms (4 pounds) after joining the programme a month ago. \u003cbr/\u003eOthers said they have seen no change. \u003cbr/\u003eIndonesian police are typically viewed negatively by the
