Mid low angle of money fluttering\u003cbr/\u003eA draft bill which will allow authorities to limit access to the Internet and monitor online user activity has become the latest hot topic in Turkey. \u003cbr/\u003eThe bill, an amendment to the existing law, will give the government the authority to keep records of all user activities for up to two years.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The new amendments include setting up of an association for Internet service providers that will be used to submit all blocking and removal orders,\" said Yaman Akdeniz, a professor of law at Istanbul's private Bilgi University. \u003cbr/\u003eIf passed, Internet service providers will be required to join an \"Internet union\" under the control of the government. \u003cbr/\u003eCritics say the draft bill is politically motivated, and will expand Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's already tight grip on the Internet. \u003cbr/\u003eThe government rejects accusations of censorship, saying the draft bill aims to protect people's privacy.\u003cbr/\u003eThe head of Istanbul's Internet cafe owners' association was in agreement. \u003cbr/\u003eMetin Baltaoglu said cyberspace had grown too large, and should be controlled. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Precautions should be taken and laws should be enacted in order for someone to not expose our private life online,\" he said. \u003cbr/\u003eBut the bill has come in for criticism from some Internet users.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The move (the draft bill) is totally bigoted. (The prime minister said) 'We're on this road together' and that's what we're protesting (about). \u003cbr/\u003eWe're not (on the road together),\" said anti-government protester Oya Aksin.\u003cbr/\u003eEarlier in the week, Erdogan's government said the investigation was orchestrated by followers of a moderate Islamic movement led by US-based cleric Fethullah Gulen.\u003cbr/\u003eErdogan accuses Gulen of running a so-called \"parallel state\".\u003cbr/\u003eHe says Gulen is running an autonomous, unelected and corrupt command structure within the police and judiciary, which runs parallel to the elected state.\u003cbr/\u003eGulen denies the accusations. \u003cbr/\u003eIn Istanbul, Erdogan's supporters rallied in support of the government carrying posters reading \"The parallel state will be brought down\".\u003cbr/\u003e\"We're here to make our voices heard against the parallel state that has inflicted a psychological blow to our country,\"
