from the west. \u003cbr/\u003eThe government has ordered Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) to step up efforts to expand health tourism.\u003cbr/\u003eTUMS has 16 hospitals with 4000 beds and each houses its own VIP wing equipped with luxuries expected by health tourists.\u003cbr/\u003ePrivate sector clinics and hospitals in Iran have extended their activities to admit foreign patients as well as meeting the country's country's own people.\u003cbr/\u003eIranian doctors already have a world reputation for inexpensive cosmetic surgery.\u003cbr/\u003eIran is already among the top ten countries with the highest number of organ transplants.\u003cbr/\u003eAbout 4000 are carried out annually, although it's not specified where the donor organs have originated.\u003cbr/\u003eIran's Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organisation and Health Ministry have signed up to an international memorandum of understanding to increase Iran's share of Asian health tourism. \u003cbr/\u003eDr. Mohammad Reza Shams Ardekani, who supervises the development tourism, believes Iran's outstanding achievements in medicine are bolstered by its historical and natural attractions.\u003cbr/\u003eIran has about 500 natural springs, 200 of them are used locally for medical treatments.\u003cbr/\u003eDr. Ardekani believes traditional medicine is another growing feature attracting foreign health tourists.\u003cbr/\u003eTehran's Sina hospital is among the government hospitals leading the charge to admit patients from Persian Gulf countries.\u003cbr/\u003eIt has its own fifteen storey VIP section with its own doctors and nurses.\u003cbr/\u003eEach room is modern, with an LCD television, refrigerator and other electrical conveniences.\u003cbr/\u003eThe government says health tourism earns a third of the investment it needs for the overall development of health projects, although there are not exact figures about the number of visitors and total revenues achieved yet.
