enormous global inequalities, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on Wednesday. \u003cbr/\u003eAddressing an international forum on workers rights, Ban said that as many countries slip into recession, migration flows have started to reverse, with foreign labourers leaving the construction and tourism sectors in industrialised nations.\u003cbr/\u003eBut rather than curse, Ban said migration should be seen as a tool to lift economies because human mobility makes them more efficient by ensuring that the right skills reach the right places.\u003cbr/\u003eHe warned that constraining migration would only make lives more miserable for an estimated 200 (m) million labourers but would never stop them from crossing borders.\u003cbr/\u003ePresident Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo of the Philippines, hosting the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD), also called on governments to strengthen laws to protect migrant workers.\u003cbr/\u003eWith more than eight (m)
