Trapfit is a new aerobics craze coming from the U.S. that blends toning exercises with...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eIf your new year's resolution to get fit has already started to wane, the prospect of swinging upside down in the air might get you motivated again. \u003cbr/\u003eTrapfit is a new aerobics craze coming from the U.S. that blends toning exercises with the trapeze.  \u003cbr/\u003eSwinging upside down from side to side, the students in this Trapfit class all agree on one thing - it's one of the most fun workouts they've ever done. \u003cbr/\u003eBut while it might look like child's play, this is serious interval training with custom made professional level trapezes and it requires intense strength work, cardio movement and deep stretching. \u003cbr/\u003eJoshuah Michael created the routine.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Trapfit is a fusion of aerial arts and fitness combined with lower body and upper body strengthening. Primarily with upper body working our shoulders lower abs and arms creating a fusion of aerial arts and fitness all into one class,\" he says. \u003cbr/\u003eThe class begins with 20 minutes of warm up - safely on the ground. \u003cbr/\u003eThen comes another 20 minutes of warm up using a very heavy aluminium and rubber bar called a 'jelly body bar\" that weighs 12 pounds followed by exercises on the trapeze. \u003cbr/\u003eMichael says the bar is used to activate the muscles in the back and shoulders to prepare for a full range of motion on the trapeze. \u003cbr/\u003e\"People want to take the class because they see everyone swinging and having fun and hanging upside, but not only that they want to work on their grip strength and their upper body strength. You don't realise how much of your upper body strength you really use everyday. It could be something as simple as bringing your groceries in the house from your car and that is something that we really need to keep strong so that we are able to hold our own and also have fun in the class. There is a lot of upper body training that we do in our class with just the flex arm hang to a pullover onto the bar, or even just swinging, you don't realise how much of your lower abs you use when you swing.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThen it's swing time where students are free to do whatever they wish on the trapeze bar for five minutes.\u003cbr/\u003eActress, Veronica Mendoza from Toluca Lake in California says the workout is tough, but she feels like a child when she's swinging. \u003cbr/\u003e\"It is super hard on the hands first of all, but I just get a rush like a kid when I'm on there. I feel like I'm on a swing. Like I'm on a jungle gym so it pushes me to go further beyond my own limits. That is why I love it because I feel like I'm at the playground, just playing like a kid.\"\u003cbr/\u003eDancer, Austin Waitie from West Hollywood says the fun to be had outweighs the difficulty. \u003cbr/\u003e\"It's such a different experience when you get up there, you feel like you're flying. You start engaging muscles that you never thought you used before. I have weak forearms and I have weak shoulders so when I get up there I realise, oh this is what I need to work on, this is what I need to help, to gain the confidence, to get back up on the trap. It's so difficult, but it's so much fun because with the swinging part of it, like I said, you feel like you're flying!\"\u003cbr/\u003eHollywood chiropractor, Dr. Ken Best says Trapfit is a great way to exercise the whole body.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It looks like the benefits of trapeze art or trapeze exercise is the adrenaline that you get from that and the excitement of doing a new kind of exercise. The other benefit is you have to have a lot of core strength to handle the apparatus and be able to hang from it. It gives a lot of variability to your type of exercise when you're just doing one type of training whether it's lifting weights where you are only developing muscles in a certain way, so when you are hanging from your limbs you're developing a different kind of integrated core strength through all the ligaments, arms and upper body.\"\u003cbr/\u003eBut he warns that fitness levels need to be high before classes such as these are attempted and advises people to train with weights beforehand.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Anytime that you're doing an exercise where you are really just hanging there off the apparatus, whether it's doing pull ups, or hanging from the trapeze, you're creating a lot of stress on the joints.
