Bush has said he will use his presence at the games to raise human rights issues directly with China's leaders. \u003cbr/\u003eBritish Prime Minister Gordon Brown and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have said they will not attend the Olympic opening ceremonies. \u003cbr/\u003eSenior US lawmakers have urged Bush to skip the ceremonies.\u003cbr/\u003eNegroponte gave no indication that Bush will skip the event.\u003cbr/\u003eAny Olympic protest by the United States would deeply offend a proud Beijing leadership that hopes the games will show China's emergence as a new world power. \u003cbr/\u003eIt also would run the risk of hindering a host of international efforts the Bush administration needs China's help to solve, including efforts to confront Myanmar's military junta and
