Mid of students entering computer room tilt up to (ENGLISH) \"Binoria Computer Institute\"\u003cbr/\u003eA number of Madrassahs in Pakistan have seen a minor revolution in the subjects taught at these Islamic seminaries.\u003cbr/\u003eEncouraged by government reforms and money from countries such as the US, the madrassahs are now running courses such as computer science alongside the traditional religious studies.\u003cbr/\u003eMadrassahs have traditionally been the lifeline to Pakistan's fledgling public education system.\u003cbr/\u003eOver the years they have filled the vacuum which had been left due to the non-existence of structured government schools for much of Pakistan's rural population.\u003cbr/\u003eMadrassah Jamia Binoria is one of the larger seminaries in the country and has hugely benefited from government and foreign aid to regulate and modernise today's madrassahs.\u003cbr/\u003eIts 5,000 students can choose between a numbe rof newly introduced courses such as English language, mathematics, information technology and media studies. \u003cbr/\u003eStudents study in purpose built well stocked computer rooms.\u003cbr/\u003eComputer teacher, Nasir, says Jamia Binoria offers a wide variety of computer courses, \"from the very basics all the way to Web designing, Corel photoshop, and MS Office in an in-depth way\".\u003cbr/\u003eFor the students these courses provide a healthy opportunity for a job in the outside world.\u003cbr/\u003eThe bid to introduce more mainstream classes is also designed to combat any extremist ideology from being taught in madrassahs.\u003cbr/\u003eShafeeq says he hopes his information technology course will enable him to get a job after leaving the seminary.\u003cbr/\u003eMadrassahs have traditionally been a place to learn about Islam and Quranic studies, this usually leaves students deeply under-privileged when it came to dealing with the commercial job market.\u003cbr/\u003eThe head cleric or the 'mufti' of Jamia Binoria explains why the seminary administration is focusing on a more balanced solution by introducing two education streams.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Everyone should obtain both religious and worldly education so that along with becoming good muslims they become good scientists, good lawyers, good judges,\" says Mufti Naeem.\u003cbr/\u003eMohammad Umair is one such graphic designer who went through the madrassah education system; he graduated after memorising the Quran, this usually takes between 4-7 years. He now works at a media production house designing graphics for various television advertisements.\u003cbr/\u003eUmair sees no difference between madrassah students and those from conventional schools.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Most students in madrassah receive some worldly education so that they can plan for their future and have a career,\" he says.\u003cbr/\u003eUmair goes ahead to show some of this previous work, and some graphics he has been working on for an on-going project.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Pakistani government has so far invested nearly 500 million rupees into several projects, while nearly five billion rupees remain to be allocated to future projects.\u003cbr/\u003eAccording to government records, there are at least 15,000 seminaries in Pakistan with more than two million students. \u003cbr/\u003eBut officials suspect that there are thousands more madrassahs which haven't yet registered with the government.\u003cbr/\u003eJamia Binoria has been highly commended by the US government for its efforts in de-radicalising young minds and deterring them from joining the Taliban. \u003cbr/\u003eThe initiative which had previously met with some resistance has now been
