And secondly, and perhaps much more importantly, on the streets in southern Iraq, the British soldiers that are operating there now as part of coalition forces, will be in increased danger, will be in increased danger because people in Iraq will see pictures like this and will be inclined to say 'look, this is what British soldiers do to our people behind the walls'. They will undoubtedly be reviewing how people are trained and how they're controlled in Iraq. This always happens. The answer to the question is will they be reviewing how we operate, the answer is clearly 'yes' - but they (the MOD) have done so much and it seems not to have worked in this case. But can I point out one thing? This happened almost two years ago. Why has it taken so long for people to come forward to show that this abuse has occurred?\"\u003cbr/\u003e8. Stewart walking away\u003cbr/\u003eAs a British military investigation into a video allegedly showing British troops abusing Iraqi civilians began, a retired senior military officer condemned the apparent abuse saying it would endanger lives of soldiers currently serving in Iraq.\u003cbr/\u003eThe British Sunday tabloid, News of the World, claimed to have received the footage which it says shows a group of young Iraqis being attacked by British soldiers. \u003cbr/\u003eThe newspaper claims the video was filmed in southern Iraq by a corporal two years ago. \u003cbr/\u003eIt also claims the corporal urged the soldiers on during the alleged attack. \u003cbr/\u003eColonel Bob Stewart came to public attention during the Bosnian war in the early 1990s when he commanded the Cheshire Regiment as part of the United Nations' peace keeping forces to help the civilian population caught up in the civil war.\u003cbr/\u003eStewart and his soldiers served with distinction in Bosnia and he himself was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (DSO) for his leadership.\u003cbr/\u003eNow retired Stewart is a military analyst. He told AP Television that he had no doubt that the video allegedly showing British troops abusing prisoners is the genuine article.\u003cbr/\u003e\"In my mind there are no doubts that these pictures are genuine and they are definitely British soldiers involved. So it's appalling,\" he said.\u003cbr/\u003eStewart added the presence of the video now meant the lives of British troops in Iraq were in even greater danger.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The problem with these pictures is firstly the reputation of the British army is shot to bits again.
