younger than 18 from encountering homosexuality in everyday life.\u003cbr/\u003eThe law on \"propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations among minors\" was signed into law by President Vladimir Putin on July 29. \u003cbr/\u003eOriginally titled the law on \"homosexual propaganda,\" the bill criminalises public expression of support for nontraditional relationships. \u003cbr/\u003eRussian lawmakers say the law doesn't outlaw homosexuality but merely discourages discussion of it among people younger than 18. \u003cbr/\u003eHowever, the law has outraged Russian liberals and some sectors of the international community just six months before the start of the Winter Olympic Games in the Russian city of Sochi. \u003cbr/\u003eUS President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron have also denounced the law. \u003cbr/\u003eThe backlash has even triggered calls for a boycott of the games, though this is not shared by all gay rights activists in Russia. Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge said last week that the Russian government provided written reassurances about the law, but that more clarity was needed. \u003cbr/\u003eFIFA has also asked for \"clarification and more details.\"\u003cbr/\u003eDuring the Olympics, the International Olympic Committee bans athletes from making political statements. \u003cbr/\u003eHowever one athlete
