It's a little hard to believe you're in that same company.\"\u003cbr/\u003eBorn in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Douglas entered the entertainment profession in the mid-1960s.\u003cbr/\u003eIt wasn't long before he made a name for himself in the 70's by starring in the popular American crime drama, 'The Streets of San Francisco.'\u003cbr/\u003eDouglas ultimately made more than 40 films. \u003cbr/\u003eIn addition to his work in front of the camera, he has also worked behind the scenes. \u003cbr/\u003eDouglas served as the producer for 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest' starring Jack Nicholson. \u003cbr/\u003eThe film won an Academy Award for Best Picture in 1975 and the Oscar made the actor pause and reconsider his career path.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I never thought I'd be producing. You know. It was just really that love of 'Cuckoo's Nest.' So after winning the Oscar as a producer, and everybody was saying 'Why do you want to act?' Because back then it was much harder to get from television to feature films. So there was a long time there, really up until 'Fatal Attraction,' 'Wall Street' where I wasn't sure.\"\u003cbr/\u003eIn the 1980s, his popularity grew with 1984's 'Romancing the Stone' and the successful sequel 'Jewel of the Nile' the following year. \u003cbr/\u003eActor Kathleen Turner co-starred in both and had kind words for her fellow actor on his big night:\u003cbr/\u003e\"Heavens. That's why it has to be Michael.\"\u003cbr/\u003eIn other career highlights, Douglas won an Oscar for Best Actor in for his role in 'Wall Street' (1987) directed by Oliver Stone.\u003cbr/\u003eThe same year Douglas also starred in the riveting thriller 'Fatal Attraction' with actors Anne Archer and Glenn Close.\u003cbr/\u003eArcher, 61, was also on hand to reveal why she admired Douglas.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Because he, he's one of those few actors who really, it really matters to him to give women equal screen time. And all his leading ladies fair very well with him. Because he's always considerate about that.\"\u003cbr/\u003eIn 1989, Douglas reunited with Turner for the divorce drama 'War of the Roses' and starred in 'Basic Instinct' opposite Sharon Stone in 1992.\u003cbr/\u003eDouglas went on to play the president of the United States in 'The American President' (1995) directed by Rob Reiner and starring Annette Bening as his love interest.\u003cbr/\u003eBening walked the red carpet with her husband Warren Beatty and spoke of Douglas and his achievements.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Well, his whole lifetime of work. We had a great time working together many years ago. My son was a baby. He's now 14.\"\u003cbr/\u003eDouglas has also appeared in titles like 'The Game' and 'Wonder Boys'.\u003cbr/\u003eIn 2000, Douglas played a lead role in the drug drama 'Traffic.'\u003cbr/\u003eBenicio Del Toro, Don Cheadle, and Erika Christensen also had roles in the film and his wife starred too, while pregnant with their first child.\u003cbr/\u003eZeta-Jones said she was really proud of her husband.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It's well-deserved. It's a great honour. I just hope he doesn't cry too much. Because it's a very emotional evening as you can imagine. I can only imagine.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe Welsh-born actor has been married to Douglas for almost nine years and the couple have two children.\u003cbr/\u003eBut his father, Kirk Douglas, joked that it was too soon for such an honour.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Well, I'm too young for my son to have a lifetime achievement award,\" mused the elder Douglas, 92. \"I don't know.
