Various of refugee camps\u003cbr/\u003eThe Indonesian government, with the help of the United Nation High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), continued to build semi-permanent shelters for homeless in Banda Aceh on Friday. \u003cbr/\u003ePeople from hundreds of tented camps will be relocated into semi-permanent shelters for up to 18 months before better housing can be built.\u003cbr/\u003eSo far 124,000 displaced people have been relocated with plans for a further 130,000 in 35,000 households still to be given shelter. \u003cbr/\u003eThe destruction from Asia's earthquake-induced tsunami was so devastating for some of Indonesia's villages that the government in Jakarta is now considering relocation as the only option, rather than rebuilding small communities. \u003cbr/\u003eMany of those in camps want to return to their villages and towns. But in many cases, the waves washed everything away. \u003cbr/\u003eCurrent camps keep Acehnese from the same area together, underscoring the strong communal bonds here. \u003cbr/\u003eSplitting people up would add to the trauma, aid groups say. \u003cbr/\u003eAcross Aceh workers are constructing wooden barracks that will house some 60,000 people. \u003cbr/\u003eMany are on the outskirts of cities such as the provincial capital Banda Aceh. One in Lhok Nga is a stone's throw away from a mass grave. \u003cbr/\u003eOfficials said they would begin taking a census of people in camps in February to determine who gets to move to barracks first and where there will be communal kitchens and schools. \u003cbr/\u003eSome people will go to pre-fabricated houses and others into military style platoon tents. \u003cbr/\u003eThose who get the barracks will be chosen because they either lost everything or live in squalid camps. \u003cbr/\u003eOfficials insist the relocations - expected to start on 15 February - will be voluntary. \u003cbr/\u003eBut some rights groups have expressed concern about the lack of information being given to refugees and also the involvement of the Indonesian military, which has troops at some camps. \u003cbr/\u003eThe government wants to build more barracks, but limits on available land mean that will take time. \u003cbr/\u003eSeen by the government as the best of the temporary accommodation, those being built now will in some cases house 12 families each. \u003cbr/\u003eThe walls in the one-room compartments are thin, with just one window. \u003cbr/\u003eHundreds of thousands of additional Acehnese are estimated to be homeless but are living with relatives or friends. \u003cbr/\u003eThe government is also expected to abandon some towns which are now graveyards. \u003cbr/\u003eOne problem for the Acehnese, a people proud of their identity and resilience, is the humiliation of living in camps. \u003cbr/\u003eThe death toll in the region from the tsunami stands
