Mid shot of people on their way to travel for the May holidays\u003cbr/\u003eThe World Health Organisation (WHO) wants stronger systems in place for Chinese laboratories holding the SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) virus.\u003cbr/\u003eJulie Hall, World Health Organisation team leader in Beijing said on Friday that human error, above other factors, could lead to bio-safety breaches like the one blamed for China's current outbreak.\u003cbr/\u003eChina confirmed two additional cases late this week: the mother and aunt of an infected nurse. They had previously been listed as suspected cases and were already under quarantine. They brought China's current number of cases to four confirmed and five suspected. \u003cbr/\u003eDr Hall could not confirm whether there would be legal repercussions if the recent outbreak was due to human error.\u003cbr/\u003eQuarantines continued, meanwhile, for about a thousand people who had contact with the confirmed SARS cases, official media said. \u003cbr/\u003eEven as the numbers rose, the WHO emphasized that the cases on China's mainland appeared to be contained to people linked to Beijing's Institute of Virology, a national laboratory, and therefore didn't constitute a threat to public health.\u003cbr/\u003eBut the agency wants to find out how two lab workers became ill and evidently passed SARS to others who came in close contact with them.\u003cbr/\u003eThe WHO also wants a reduction in the number of SARS virus samples held for research around the globe to minimize the risk of laboratory infections.\u003cbr/\u003eTracking the current cases is especially urgent because China's weeklong May Day vacation begins Saturday. Millions will be traveling around the country, and any SARS carriers could infect people over a wide area.\u003cbr/\u003eDuring the initial SARS outbreak last year, China's government sharply restricted all travel and essentially cancelled the May Day holiday. But on Friday, no surgical masks, common last year as a SARS precaution, were seen on travellers at Beijing's main railway station.\u003cbr/\u003eMost travellers were unfazed by the latest outbreak.\u003cbr/\u003e349 people in China died of SARS last year.
