At the same time, they get the care they need.\u003cbr/\u003eIt is the headquarters for the 75-member Pinoy Plus, a group of Filipinos with HIV who have come together for support, and to educate others about AIDS.\u003cbr/\u003eApart from drawing strength from each other, the group, organised in 1995, has come up with projects allowing people with HIV to earn a living. Some members sew kitchen towels for example, or are involved in other work projects.\u003cbr/\u003eLiza Enriquez, 32, found out she was HIV-positive in 1992.\u003cbr/\u003eShe was depressed after first finding out about her condition, but having the \u003cbr/\u003epeople of Pinoy Plus around her made a huge difference.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (Tagalog) \u003cbr/\u003e\"Having a support group matters a lot because many of our members have families who\u003cbr/\u003edo not know their real condition, their relatives don't know, so they get their support system from Pinoy Plus the organization. We give each other encouragement not to be depressed because we are all here, we all know that.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Liza Enriquez, member of Pinoy Plus \u003cbr/\u003eLiza  is now a health educator, going around the country  talking about the threat of AIDS.  \u003cbr/\u003eShe's one of many who will be speaking before the 4th Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific on Saturday. \u003cbr/\u003eThe number of AIDS cases in the Philippines is relatively low. There have been 958 documented cases of HIV infections since 1984. Of those, 318 have developed to full-blown AIDS, and 169 people have died.\u003cbr/\u003eBut the Health Department estimates there could be as many as 25,000 Filipinos who are HIV infected.\u003cbr/\u003eCompared to neighbouring countries, the Philippines is relatively safe, but Health Secretary Carmencita Reodica says it does not mean that Filipinos can let their guard down about the AIDS epidemic.  \u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English) \u003cbr/\u003e\"We found out that the prevalence among the general population is less than one per cent and we have one of the lowest in the Asia-Pacific region. But I think we should not be comfortable and we should not be complacent about it because what is important\u003cbr/\u003eis that the infection is here, transmission is ongoing, and we should strengthen and continuously sustain our information education program.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Carmencita Reodica, Philippine Secretary of Health\u003cbr/\u003eThe government along with some nongovernment organisations or N-G-Os have been active in the campaign against the spread of AIDS. They are teaching the public about safe sex, and promoting the use of condoms.  \u003cbr/\u003eReach Out, one of the NGOs active in the fight against AIDS, has four clinics nationwide. Reach Out gives free consultations to patients with sexually transmitted diseases.  \u003cbr/\u003eBut Reach Out head Jomar Fleras says they have to deal with some frustrations. \u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English)\u003cbr/\u003e\"We battle a lot of this Filipino psychology, I think there's so much denial here even though we know that AIDS exists and we've seen a lot of people with HIV, and yet there's so much denial here.  We're battling against the all powerful, mighty Catholic Church on the issue of condoms. What we want is the real solution to the problem.
