Close of Rubelite ring\u003cbr/\u003eAn aquamarine ring that transforms into a dragonfly and men's jewellery designed by a real life Viking are the star attractions at the 30th Goldsmith's jewellery fair - a show for UK independent jewellery designers.\u003cbr/\u003ePearls in all manner of shapes and sizes are also bang on trend this season. \u003cbr/\u003ePearls traditionally mark a 30th wedding anniversary, but most people celebrating aren't lucky enough to do it with a ï¿½35,000 (USD $56,700) string of perfect 15mm South Sea pearls like these.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Goldsmith's Jewellery Fair in London is an annual celebration of the best of independent UK-based jewellery designers and silver and goldsmiths.\u003cbr/\u003eMore than 180 designers display their latest creations during the two week fair.\u003cbr/\u003eGlasgow-based jeweller, Yvonne Smith is showing off her latest collection of pearls. \u003cbr/\u003eShe has black pearls, yellow Polynesian pearls and pure white South Sea pearls.\u003cbr/\u003eEach year she travels to the annual pearl auction in Japan to shop for the very best pearls to turn into necklaces and earrings.\u003cbr/\u003eSmith believes pearls' conservative and staid reputation is unfair and the days of the twin-set and pearls are long gone.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I think the cultured pearls that are grown in Japan are not quite as pop art, if you like. Bang on trend for this season,\" she says.\u003cbr/\u003eBut it's not just pearls at the Goldsmith's Fair. \u003cbr/\u003ePolish-born jeweller Tomasz Donocik is causing a stir with his unusual transforming Dragonfly ring.\u003cbr/\u003eHis one-off creation is actually two rings for the price of one.\u003cbr/\u003eHe explains: \"You can put it on and wear it on the hand, it fits across the fingers. Or what you can do is in the day time, you can take out the centre ring and wear it as a separate ring so basically it becomes much more of a wearable day time ring.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe Shoreditch-based designer says the aquamarine, emerald and diamond ring costs ï¿½28,000 (USD $45,426).\u003cbr/\u003eHe is also selling more affordable gun pendants for ï¿½135 each (USD $219)\u003cbr/\u003eMost stands are selling women's jewellery, but Icelandic-born Kristjan Eyjolfsson is looking to the men's market with his Viking inspired collection.\u003cbr/\u003eAnd the jewellery designer even claims he is a Viking: \u003cbr/\u003e\"We started doing some research about the Viking collection and we found out I'm related to Ingï¿½lfur Arnarson the founder of Iceland, 30th generation which is quite a treat to find out. The iolite was considered to be a sun stone, they used it to navigate in bad weather and it helped them to find the sun.\"\u003cbr/\u003eHis silver Thor's hammer pendant starts at ï¿½1,665 and this Viking sun rings can cost up to ï¿½16,500 (USD 26,120) in platinum.\u003cbr/\u003eThe rune ring starts from ï¿½550 (USD $892).\u003cbr/\u003eNobody has been coming to the Goldsmith's Fair for as long as silversmith Martyn Pugh, who hasn't missed a show in three decades.\u003cbr/\u003ePugh says he's witnessed a lot of changes in the industry over this time - but it's been mostly for the good.\u003cbr/\u003eHe believes there is more interest in the West in bespoke, artisan products these days and that people are less brand-focussed, preferring instead to meet the creator and have a relationship.\u003cbr/\u003eHe also says new materials and techniques mean his craft is constantly evolving.\u003cbr/\u003e\"There are always new things to do, new places to go and of course as a designer and a creative person you're always looking for the new and the original. But in palladium the dramatic over-sized earrings can be worn comfortably.\u003cbr/\u003eThey are set with golden heliodore stones and cost ï¿½4,400 (USD 7,138)\u003cbr/\u003eOne of the show's most technical jewellers is German-born Tom Rucker, who's been living in the UK since 1997.\u003cbr/\u003eHis platinum necklaces are intricate objects, taking him sometimes more than 400 hours to create.\u003cbr/\u003eRucker works under a microscope and with a laser burns tiny welds into the platinum wire - this particular necklace has over 700,000 spot welds and can cost from ï¿½38,000 (USD 61,650).\u003cbr/\u003eJeweller Josef Koppman, originally from the Dolomites, creates bold jewellery inspired by his love of modern architecture.\u003cbr/\u003eThis amethyst pyramid cut ring is set in 24 carat gold and costs ï¿½1,260 (USD 2,044).\u003cbr/\u003eSt-Albans jeweller Sophia Mann has created a tribal-looking necklace set with hundreds of semi-precious and precious gems - including black diamonds, sapphires, pearls and moonstones.\u003cbr/\u003eShe calls this piece The Winged Messenger and it costs ï¿½17,000 (USD 27,580). \u003cbr/\u003eBut the show isn't just for established names - there are also lots of young designers exhibiting for the first time, like recent graduate Shivani Patel.\u003cbr/\u003eShe set up her own jewellery design label near Malvern in 2007 after graduating in jewellery design from Birmingham.\u003cbr/\u003eHer rings use rich, yellow 22 carat Indian gold and she uses striking off-set designs.\u003cbr/\u003eThis rubelite ring costs ï¿½1,700 ($2746 USD). All her pieces are one-off.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Goldsmith's Jewellery fair runs from September 24-30, with a second week featuring new designers in October.\u003cbr/\u003eIt takes place in the sumptuous
