So, thank you very much, all of you, for honoring me tonight, and for all that you do for the Geffen.\"\u003cbr/\u003eLife has been less than a jolly holiday, less than something good, for the star of the big-screen musical classics \"Mary Poppins\" and \"The Sound of Music.\" \u003cbr/\u003eAccepting the Distinction in Theater award Monday night (2 May 2011) at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles, actress Julie Andrews told the audience, \"I think all of you know that this is been a difficult window of time for me, and one of huge transition.\"\u003cbr/\u003eAndrews' husband, American director Blake Edwards (\"Breakfast at Tiffany's\"), died from complications of pneumonia in December. He was 88.  The two were married and worked together for most of the British Andrews'  five decades in Hollywood. She agrees they were soul mates.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Yes, for 41 years,\" the Oscar winning said, solemnly. \u003cbr/\u003eThey first teamed for a big-budget dud, the 1970 musical flop, \"Darling Lili.\" But, eventually, Edwards and Andrews would deliver big-screen successes: the 1979 box-office smash \"10,\" the biting 1981 Hollywood satire \"S.O.B.,\" and their Oscar-nominated 1982 musical \"Victor/Victoria\" - which Andrews called some of the best work in her filmography. \"I think that the ones with Blake, certainly, and there's a little movie that we did called, 'That's Life' (1986), which was such a joy.\"\u003cbr/\u003eLife after Edwards' passing began with something of a party, attended by friends, family and Hollywood colleagues. \u003cbr/\u003e\"It was a good memorial,\" Andrews recalled. \"It was. I wanted it to be fun. And I didn't want it to be maudlin or sad, because Blake wouldn't have wanted that.\"\u003cbr/\u003eAnd she has forged ahead professionally, adding to her long list of children's books with the
