Old Town. \u003cbr/\u003eThe venue, now celebrating its 70th year, is famous for its mojitos, a delicious local cocktail made with rum, lime, bruised mint leaves and cane sugar syrup, that gained fame for being a favourite tipple of American writer Ernest Hemingway, who lived in Cuba for a time.\u003cbr/\u003eAfter seven decades in business the bar is firmly on Cuba''s tourist map, and visitors enjoy soaking up the lively atmosphere and sampling the famous cocktails.\u003cbr/\u003eTo mark its birthday, Bodeguita del Medio is staging a party celebrating its history, while at the same time announcing plans to expand into Europe.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Defending ''Cubanismo'', that''s the principal goal of Bodeguita del Medio for the future,\" said bar manager Somalia Perez, using the word ''Cubanismo'' to describe the essence of Cuba, or Cubanness.\u003cbr/\u003eShe said the Cuban government, which owns the bar, wants to export ''Cubanismo'' to Germany, France, Italy and Spain over the next year, opening Bogeguitas in each country.\u003cbr/\u003eBack at the original Bodeguita, pictures of famous people line the walls, a band provides a backdrop of salsa music, and tourists keep the bartender busy mixing batch after batch of the bar''s signature drink.\u003cbr/\u003eMojitos are by far the most popular beverage served there, made famous by bar regular Hemingway, who once wrote
