But Interior Minister Mwenze Kongolo also appealed for international intervention to...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eEnglish/Nat\u003cbr/\u003eA senior member of Laurent Kabila's government says the shelling of Kinshasa from neighbouring Brazzaville amounts to a declaration of war. \u003cbr/\u003eBut Interior Minister Mwenze Kongolo also appealed for international intervention to prevent all out war between the two Congos. \u003cbr/\u003eHis comments on Thursday followed renewed cross-border shelling - including a direct hit on President Kabila's palace which killed two of his body guard.\u003cbr/\u003eThere was a fresh bout of shelling between Kinshasa and its neighbour-  Brazzaville on Wednesday.\u003cbr/\u003eThe shelling was the first time that mortars have fallen on Kinshasa since last week, when at least 21 people were killed by shells fired from Brazzaville. \u003cbr/\u003eTwo rockets hit the presidential palace killing two soldiers and seriously wounding three others.\u003cbr/\u003eKinshasa returned mortar fire once the renewed shelling began.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Interior Minister said the attacks were aimed at getting his country involved in the civil war.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It was a declaration of war, to my understanding but I don't think the government is ready to take that action because of all the international ramifications. Congolese Interior Minister\u003cbr/\u003eThe conflict in Brazzaville pits forces backing President Pascal Lissouba against the private militia of his arch-rival and former military ruler, Denis Sassou Nguesso. \u003cbr/\u003eFighting erupted on June the 5th after Lissouba sent troops to surround Sassou's the residence in an attempt to seize illegal weapons prior to presidential elections. \u003cbr/\u003eThe elections scheduled for July 27 have since been derailed by the conflict.\u003cbr/\u003eKongolo said it was clear which side fired the shot which landed on the presidential palace.\u003cbr/\u003eWe know for sure that it's Sassou Nguesso's side (the private militia of former military ruler Denis Sassou Nguesso) because the ammunition was B-M-21 missile and we know that Lissouba (President Pascal Lissouba) is out of that - so it's got to be Sassou Nguesso's side and it was unfortunate because it came and hit the president's office and killed three of his guards.\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Mwenze Kongolo, D.R.
