So far the index has dropped about, six, more than six percent, from the recent peak.  So anything within ten percent is still a reasonable correction.\"\u003cbr/\u003e15. Traders working \u003cbr/\u003eMost Asian stock markets fell on Monday after Wall Street plunged at the end of last week on the lingering credit concerns that have recently been roiling markets.\u003cbr/\u003eIn Japan Tokyo's benchmark Nikkei 225 index shed 0.67 percent to 16,865.9 points at midday, after hitting an intraday low of 16,675.39 points in the morning session.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Nikkei 225 index closed at 16,914.46 points, down 65.40 points, or 0.39 percent, from Friday.  On Friday the index lost 0.03 percent.\u003cbr/\u003eWith investor sentiment dampened in the wake of Wall Street's plunge on Friday there were a number of losers in Japan.\u003cbr/\u003eMizuho Financial Group Inc., lost 2.50 percent to 702,000 yen (5,949.15 US dollars).\u003cbr/\u003eSteelmakers also fell, with Inpex Holdings Inc. sinking 5.83 percent to 1.13 (m) million yen (9,576.27 US dollars).\u003cbr/\u003eJapanese retailer Fast Retailing Co. fell 2.53 percent to 6,550 yen (55.51 US dollars) after the operator of Japan's popular Uniqlo casual clothing chain raised its offer to acquire Barneys New York. \u003cbr/\u003eThe move was taken after Dubai-based investment group Istithmar matched Fast's original offer.\u003cbr/\u003eThe broader Topix index of all the exchange's first section shares shed 4.50 points, or 0.27 percent, to 1,668.04 points. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Topix rose 0.19 percent on Friday.\u003cbr/\u003eIn currency trading, the dollar was trading at 117.58 yen at 2:50 p.m. (0550 GMT), down from 118.41 yen late on Friday in New York.\u003cbr/\u003eThe euro rose to 1.3812 US dollars from 1.3801 US dollars.\u003cbr/\u003eMeanwhile in Hong Kong shares plunged 2.7 percent on Monday as traders sold blue chips, taking cues from Wall Street's losses on Friday.\u003cbr/\u003eAnalysts said the local market is likely to move lower during volatile trading in the coming weeks as investors remain on edge about the repercussions of the US sub-prime mortgage crisis for the global credit market.\u003cbr/\u003eThe blue-chip Hang Seng Index plunged 601.71 points, or 2.67 percent, to 21,936.73.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Dow Jones industrial average fell 2.1 percent on Friday amid concerns the sub-prime mortgage crisis in the US was deepening.\u003cbr/\u003eAnalyst Louis Wong Wai-kit from Philips Securities Limited said the fall was due to a combination of a number of factors.\u003cbr/\u003e\"First of all the carry trade unwinding prompt more selling and more fund flows from the risky assets such as equities into safe havens such as treasuries,\" said Wong.\u003cbr/\u003eHe said a weaker outlook of US economy also contributed to the plunge. \u003cbr/\u003eWong said economic outlook becomes clouded because job data released last Friday showed less job creation in July. \u003cbr/\u003eUnemployment rate started to climb from 4.5 percent to 4.6 percent. \u003cbr/\u003eWong said the drop in the index was in fact a reasonable correction.\u003cbr/\u003e\"As for the fall starting from late July, I still see there's a kind of correction after the rally over the last two months or so from May to July. statement on its assessment of the scale of the sub-prime mortgage problem in the US.\u003cbr/\u003eElsewhere in Asia stocks in Indonesia and Singapore shed more than three percent by midday, while share prices in the Philippines, Thailand and India were all down by more than two percent.\u003cbr/\u003eChinese stocks meanwhile shrugged off the dips elsewhere to gain ground on bullish forecasts
