Truck delivers prisoners to prison\u003cbr/\u003eThe two-year legal saga concerning one of the richest men in Russia is finally over.\u003cbr/\u003eA Moscow court found oil tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky guilty of an array of charges Tuesday including fraud and tax evasion, and sentenced\u003cbr/\u003ehim to nine years in prison, minus time served.\u003cbr/\u003eThe announcements came on the 12th day of the laborious verdict-reading process in the most closely watched trial of post-Soviet Russia, and one which has been widely criticised as politically motivated.\u003cbr/\u003eKhodorkovsky, the former head of the Yukos oil company and once estimated to be Russia's richest man, has already spent 583 days in jail, meaning he would serve about another seven-and-a-half years in prison.\u003cbr/\u003eKhodorkovsky looked straight ahead as the sentence was pronounced.\u003cbr/\u003eHis co-defendant Platon Lebedev, found guilty of the same charges and given the same sentence, said, \"There's not a sane person who can understand what you have said.\"\u003cbr/\u003eKhodorkovsky's rise to wealth and power began during Boris Yeltsin's presidency in the early 1990's. Fearing that Communists would be elected, Yeltsin appealed for funds to Russia's richest businessmen. \u003cbr/\u003eWhen the government couldn't pay back these loans, the businessmen were given control of Russia's natural resources for vastly-reduced prices - the era of the 'oligarchs' had begun.\u003cbr/\u003eKhodorkovsky bought oil giant Yukos at a state auction in 1995 for a meagre 350 (m) million US dollars. \u003cbr/\u003eOver the next five years he built the company into country's biggest oil company.\u003cbr/\u003eKhodorkovsky's fortune was once estimated as high as 15 (b) billion US dollars. \u003cbr/\u003eHe was seen as the leading oligarch in the country. But Khodorkovsky fell foul of the Kremlin when he branched out into the political arena, giving donations to opposition parties and criticising President Vladimir Putin.\u003cbr/\u003eSupporters have claimed that Khodorkovsky's trial was part of a Kremlin-driven campaign to punish him and to stifle his own political ambitions. \u003cbr/\u003eThe sentence will keep him in prison well past the 2008 presidential elections and potentially during the 2012 elections as well.\u003cbr/\u003eKhodorkovsky was arrested in October 2003  when special forces stormed his private plane as it sat on the tarmac at a Siberian airport.\u003cbr/\u003eKhodorkovsky gambled that the public outcry in the West and Russia made him untouchable. \u003cbr/\u003eA liberal member of parliament, Vladimir Ryzhkov, suggested Monday that Khodorkovsky's team consider filing an appeal with the\u003cbr/\u003eEuropean Court of Human Rights, \"which will make a decision on the basis of common sense and law,\" the Interfax news agency reported.\u003cbr/\u003eParallel to Khodorkovsky's trial, Yukos has been battered by some 28 (b) billion US dollars (22.5 billion euro) in back taxes claims. \u003cbr/\u003eThe company's main
