that the state was left behind when the information technology (IT) revolution began sweeping India.\u003cbr/\u003eBut now a group of young people have taken the initiative to change that in a project aided by the the state government.\u003cbr/\u003eThey have set up a business process outsourcing (BPO) company in Srinagar that is working on its first offline data convergence project, outsourced to them by a Singapore-based company.\u003cbr/\u003eMagnum Software Services, established just three months ago, employs 320 people and expects to grow to 5,000 by January.\u003cbr/\u003eSitting in a two-story building in Srinagar's industrial complex, the employees convert medical files, journals, and research work from one format to another. \u003cbr/\u003eThe company still works offline because available bandwidth is inadequate and the power supply is sometimes interrupted, so for now, the company receives and sends data on CDs.\u003cbr/\u003eDhananjay Sharma, project manager at Magnum, said the company had a tough time convincing clients to give them work in trouble-torn Kashmir, but that's gradually changing as clients see the work Magnum's employees produce.\u003cbr/\u003eThose employees weren't always so skilled, however.\u003cbr/\u003eSome concede they knew nothing about the job before joining Magnum, and that the company had to train them.\u003cbr/\u003eDedication to training and growth is part of a desire by both the company and its workers to help the region become a major player in IT-related fields.\u003cbr/\u003e\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003c/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv
