Wide of Sergio and Lucas\u003cbr/\u003eUnemployment across the 17 countries that use the euro remained at its record high rate of 11.4 percent in August, official data showed Monday, renewing concerns that efforts to slash debts have sacrificed jobs.\u003cbr/\u003eGreece was high on the list at 24.4 percent, just below Spain's 25.1 percent.\u003cbr/\u003eBut it was Greece's youth who ranked highest in the eurozone's under-25 unemployment and many were pessimistic that things would improve anytime soon.\u003cbr/\u003eStefanos, a 23-year-old who did not want to give his last name, is in his final year of studying nursing in Larissa, a town in central Greece.\u003cbr/\u003eHe was drinking coffee and having a cigarette outside a church in central Athens surrounded by lines of closed shops.\u003cbr/\u003eStefanos said he didn't feel the education he was receiving was adequate to help him get a job. \u003cbr/\u003eHe said that even if he succeeded in getting a nursing post, he would earn no more than 400 euros (516 US dollars) per month.\u003cbr/\u003e\"You can't look forward. I think this is useless and it's just a name (referring to the title one would get from a degree) that you can get a job with less money. Just an opportunity, you can see it as an opportunity and then you can take it and live like that all your life,\" he said. \u003cbr/\u003eStefanos said his friends have settled for low-wage jobs for the sake of having an income, albeit small, and not as career choices.\u003cbr/\u003eThe 23-year-old's pessimism is not unfounded.\u003cbr/\u003eGreece's finance minister was meeting with debt inspection teams from the International Monetary Fund, European Central Bank and European Commission - known as the troika to negotiate a two-year additional austerity package.\u003cbr/\u003eAthens needs the troika to sign off on a package of spending cuts and tax hikes for 2013-14 expected to reach 13.5 (b) billion euros (17.5 (b)  billion US dollars) so its bailout creditors can continue disbursing billions of euros in rescue loans that are keeping Greece from a messy default.\u003cbr/\u003eSpain, meanwhile, is in its second recession in three years and battling to fulfil pledges to the EU to reduce its budget deficit.\u003cbr/\u003eThe country is at the centre of the European financial crisis, being the fourth-largest among the 17 countries that use the euro, and the Spanish are bearing the brunt of the meltdown.\u003cbr/\u003eSergio Vicente, 38 years old, married with two  children has been unemployed for the past eight months. \u003cbr/\u003eHe was fired from the security company where he used to work and hasn't found a job since. \u003cbr/\u003eHis wife works but her salary is not enough to support the whole family and pay for the mortgage.\u003cbr/\u003eFor now they get by with help from their families and by paying some of their bills in instalments. \u003cbr/\u003eSergio is tirelessly looking for a job, hoping to find something before the couple go through all their savings. \u003cbr/\u003eBut he is worried he will not find a placement before his unemployment benefit expires in two  months. \u003cbr/\u003e\"In the long term it will be impossible, because
