As urban gardens sprout up across the globe, Gaggiani's website is trying to connect them online. Beyond socialising, it also teaches farmers how to go about it.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It provides its users with everything they need to grow their veggies from seeding to harvesting,\" says Gaggiani.  \"It gives a 360-degree view of everything that you should do,\" he says. \u003cbr/\u003eGrow the Planet was especially designed for those who weren't born with a green thumb. The platform provides a step-by-step, day-to-day guide for tending a garden. With only a few clicks, new users can design their garden online, specifying the actual measurements of their plot and the kinds of veggies they plan to grow. \u003cbr/\u003eSince its launch in March, Grow the Planet has attracted more than 10,000 users, most of them in Italy. After Italian venture capitalist, H-Farm, helped launch Grow the Planet, new investors from northern Italy are following.  \u003cbr/\u003e\"Grow the Planet is Italian, it was born in Italy, and I can tell you it couldn't have been otherwise,\" says Gaggiani, \"because for us food is really part of our culture, something that makes us unique all over the world.\"  \u003cbr/\u003eLeonardo Piras works for a web agency in the centre of Florence. As a city type, he thought it better to start small. He placed a few pots of eggplant, tomatoes and basil in his office balcony with a view on Florence's basilica. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Even if we don't know the techniques, we're not experts, we don't know the tricks,\" says Piras, \"at least we can watch our plants, and see on a screen or cell phone what we have to do everyday.\"  \u003cbr/\u003eGrow the Planet's encyclopedic approach to farming is making it easier for young professionals like Piras to reconnect with the land - telling them when to sow, how often to water, and when to expect their first harvest.\u003cbr/\u003eThe website is still in its beta phase. Recently, Gaggiani and his team added new features to the site.  Now, users can follow other users, search friends by name and share pictures of their gardens. \u003cbr/\u003eA geo-tagging feature tells users which fruits and vegetables can thrive in their climate. This also helps farmers find each other, exchange seeds, swap vegetables, and promote a zero-mile diet. \u003cbr/\u003e\"I was impressed by its geo-referencing feature,\" says Marco Lotito, a seasoned urban farmer in Rome.  \"It gives you the opportunity of turning a virtual relationship into a real one,\" he says. \u003cbr/\u003eLotito, who has been growing herbs and vegetables for years, went from buying organic to renting his own plot of land.
