A Conceptual Model\" is the largest display ever to be shown and has already drawn 17,000 visitors since it opened last week (23rd July 2009).\u003cbr/\u003e\"We are showing an exhibition which is very unique, because all these different Bauhaus pieces have never been  presented together before,\" says says Annemarie Jaeggi, the Director of the Berlin Bauhaus Archive and one of three curators.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We're not only showing what is commonly recognised as a Bauhaus, such as its functionality, the square architecture with flat roofs, the wonderful metal furniture -  they are an important element of the exhibition - but we are also trying to show other dimensions of Bauhaus.\"\u003cbr/\u003eJaeggi describes Bauhaus as a school first and foremost that \"wanted nothing less than to change the world.\"\u003cbr/\u003eShaped by its three directors Walter Gropius, Hannes Meyer and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, the Bauhaus school was formed in 1919 in Weimar.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's ideal was to transcend the divisions that had separated arts and crafts and emphasise a new modern aesthetic that could also be mass-produced.\u003cbr/\u003eWorld-famous teachers like Vasily Kandinsky, Paul Klee or Oskar Schlemmer also put their mark on the 1,250 students that were enrolled in the 14 years of the school's existence.\u003cbr/\u003eAbiding by the slogan \"People's necessities, not luxuries,\" which was coined by Meyer, the \"Bauhaeuslers\" created everyday objects such as tea sets, chairs or table nests that could be bought by ordinary people and not just the wealthy elite.\u003cbr/\u003eBut the conservative German establishment was hostile of the Bauhaus movement and its progressive ideas right from the start. \u003cbr/\u003eOnly six years after its founding in Weimar, the school had to move to Dessau in 1925, to evade politically motivated attacks. \u003cbr/\u003eIn 1932, the school had to relocate to Berlin, where it was eventually shut down by the Nazis a year later.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It is a phenomena that Bauhaus was not weakened by oppression and persecution. Dessau and the Klassik Stiftung Bauhaus, is open until October 4th. \u003cbr/\u003eIn addition to the show, there are also organised tours to private Bauhaus buildings in Berlin and Dessau.\u003cbr/\u003eIn November, 400 objects from the show will travel to New York as part of a similar Bauhaus exhibition at the Museum of Modern
